ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an Environmental Technician to join our team supporting the Portsmouth Site! This position is full-time and will be based out of Piketon, OH.
Responsibilities
Under direct supervision, perform Environmental Science job functions as assigned by management.
Assist and support management in identifying and resolving issues involving site environmental conditions.
Coordinating sampling, data capturing and reporting.
Ensuring that site operations are conducted in a manner that is compliant with contractual, statutory and regulatory Environmental requirements.
Provide technical, administrative and/or functional support to the Environmental Science team.
Assigned job duties may support Environmental Science functional areas such as:
sampling,
data capture,
entry and analysis support,
documentation, or
report preparation.
Perform assigned tasks according to detailed instructions and established policies and procedures.
Maintain data in various data capture systems.
Generate reports.
Assist with set up of sampling equipment, calibrating instruments and performing inspections of environmental facilities.
Maintain knowledge of and demonstrate ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures and applicable regulations and performs assigned duties in a safe manner.
Actively participate in Safety Work Groups.
Requirements
Education & Years of Experience – High School Diploma and 1 year of relevant experience.
Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
Experience with basic PC skills to include Microsoft software.
Basic understanding of federal and state policies and regulations, project policies and requirements.
Work in an environmental restoration atmosphere (outdated and/or abandoned facilities); potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents or hazardous and radioactive materials if proper safety procedures are not followed.
Ability to wear respirator and other protective equipment to enter various types of potentially hazardous areas (such as but not limited to chemical, dust fumes, mists, heat stress factors, etc.).
Ability to carry several instruments/equipment or tools while walking extensively; potential prolonged walking/standing, repeated pushing/pulling.
Ability to perform medium to very heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, nonrepetitive, and up to 50 pounds of force frequently (any exertion of force/lifting greater than 45 pounds requires usage of a two-person “buddy system”), and/or more than 20 pounds of force constantly; performing such activities as lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, grasping, kneeling, stooping, reaching.
Potential for prolonged driving of or riding in a motor vehicle, machine operation, and/or working around moving equipment/machinery or motorized vehicles (such as but not limited to car, truck, golf cart, gator, heavy equipment).
Ability to work in confined areas, tanks, heat stress conditions, high noise and areas with radiation and chemical hazards.
Environmental conditions may include weather or temperature extremes, inclement weather (such as but not limited to wind, rain, excessive heat, excessive cold, snow/ice, etc.).
In some cases radiological training may be required.
May be required to operate company vehicle during the course of work. All safety and DOT regulations and procedures must be adhered to at all times.
Desired Skills
DOE “L” or “Q” clearance.

The DOE's Portsmouth Site, located in Piketon, Ohio, strives to effectively implement EM responsibilities, obligations and activities to accomplish environmental remediation actions in compliance with regulatory milestones and agreements; disposition legacy and newly generated waste; implement Cold Shutdown requirements; disposition of depleted uranium hexafluoride cylinders; and perform Decontamination and Decommissioning (energy.gov).
