NSF’s NOIRLab is the preeminent US national center for ground-based, nighttime optical and infrared astronomy. We are seeking a Craftsperson II (Electrician) for the Kitt Peak National Observatory to perform a variety of responsibilities including operation and maintenance of the electrical systems and other general facility support activities and maintenance efforts, as directed. The work location is at the Kitt Peak National Observatory, approximately 56 miles southwest of Tucson, Arizona. For Kitt Peak based positions, transportation is provided from NOIRLab’s base facility, located on the University of Arizona campus. There is also transportation available via shuttle from Sells or Three Points.
Essential Functions :
- Install, maintain, modify and repair all electrical distribution system and associated electrical equipment.
- Inspect and test components of electrical system, including transformer, transfer switched and switch gears.
- Utilize blueprints, wiring diagrams and manufacturers installation manuals to complete assigned projects.
- Survey electrical system, circuits and plans and report any issues.
- Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, repairs and / or replacement of parts, associated equipment and / or components within the systems.
- The work will incorporate repair efforts as directed, or by using, established trade procedures or practices with little or no supervision.
- Assist team members in carpentry, painting, cleaning and general maintenance efforts.
- General maintenance efforts will include the following : performing preventive maintenance on the various systems such as HVAC and plumbing.
- Efforts may be directed toward adjustment, operation and expansion of the control systems that maintain the building environment.
- Other responsibilities will include the operation of lifts and forklifts as necessary, maintaining written or electronic records, maintaining tools and a clean orderly work area, and general assistance to other crafts persons or staff members as required or requested.
- Requires on call status for emergencies after working hours.
