We are seeking an EHS Specialist to join our team in Plainville, CT!
The Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, administering and sustaining an effective environmental, health, and safety (EHS) process through risk reduction strategies and management system implementation. The EHS Specialist is the on-site face of safety for the business, working directly with managers and associates across the facility to deploy pro-active safety programs consistent with a world class corporation.
Essential Duties:
- Implement all aspects of the Gems Setra EHS system.
- Improve EHS workplace performance by promoting an incident-free workplace, and identifying and mitigating EHS risk in accordance with regulations, corporate compliance policies, and ISO standards.
- Schedule and present all necessary EHS training for employees and ensure compliance and understanding.
- Guide and direct assigned operating company toward compliance with local, state, and federal safety and
- environmental regulations, and corporate compliance policies.
- Facilitate and engage operating company team and team members to drive projects that will lead to reductions in accidents, energy, water usage and waste minimization.
- Ensure timely submittal of required federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulatory reports.
- Lead Safety Committee and facilitate team meetings as appropriate for the operating company.
- Conduct inspections and audits throughout the entire manufacturing facility to identify existing or potential hazards and determine corrective or preventive measures.
- Lead first aid response team, coordinate annual certifications and conduct monthly meetings.
- Conduct and document incident investigations with root cause/countermeasures, and maintain OSHA recordkeeping.
- Administer Workers Compensation functions for the assigned business unit.
- Provide input on factory daily management and project reviews.
- Positively contribute in kaizen events supporting a continuous improvement culture.
- Facilitate EHS suggestions and manage near miss program.
- Conduct JSAs (safety risk assessments) and Aspect / Impact Analysis (environmental risk assessments).
- Manage environmental compliance including hazardous waste disposal, environmental permits, and EPA regulatory reporting.
- Lead local sustainability projects, sustainability reporting, and emission reduction initiatives.
- Manage safety and wellness programs (biometric screening, health fair, and ART).
Education and Experience (Required):
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in environmental, health and safety or related scientific field
- 6 months of related experience (related experience may include internship or co-op experience).
- Sound judgment with the ability to make timely decisions.
- Solid time management skills with proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic results driven culture.
- Versatile, flexible, and a desire to work within a high-paced manufacturing environment.
Other Functions:
May be assigned additional projects and responsibilities at the sole discretion of the Operations Manager, EHS Leader or Director of Operations.
Salary : $65,000
