As a PCA/DSP at Genacta, we work to improve independence and quality of life for our neighbors facing various disabling or potentially disabling challenges. Our goal is to help individuals enjoy life by helping them perform their simple daily functions: light meal prep, medical appointment escort, personal hygiene, bathing, light housekeeping. Your compassion and diligence as a PCA/DSP will bring joy into the lives of the individuals in our community needing assistance.
You will work independently with individuals in their home, Genacta in Home Care has immediate opening for both Full and Part-Time.
PCA/DSP Responsibilities
Travel to clients’ homes, arriving on time
Greet clients in a warm, professional manner
Understand the limitations and needs of each individual client
Provide basic domestic services e.g., meal prep, laundry, light housework
Provide companionship and engage in conversation with the clients
Run errands, either with or for the client, as needed(if approved in plan of care)
Assist with mobility issues, wheelchair, walker, etc.
Remind the client to take medications
Help with personal hygiene e.g., brushing teeth, toileting, bathing
Change bed linens regularly
Assist with all daily activities, based on the client’s approved tasks
Provide a caring and positive presence for the client
Document/log client’s’ progress and overall wellbeing, for daily reports
- Tasks vary with each individual, according to their state approved plan
Group Home DSP Responsibilities
We are looking for a responsible, caring, and compassionate direct support professional (DSP) to join our growing team. The ideal job candidate will be highly dependable and have a passion for helping those with intellectual and developmental disabilities live a more fulfilled and happy life. Working one-on-one with each client, or as a group, you will assess his/her needs and tend to them accordingly with the goal of fostering a positive, encouraging environment.
Direct Support Professional Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Be a personal companion to clients and act as a supportive role model serving their needs and working to build their independence
- Encourage individuals’ preferred hobbies and interests
- Assist with and work to strengthen the individuals’ many daily living needs, including but not limited to nutrition, hygiene, exercise, communication, and socialization skills
- Help Create daily schedules and plans for clients
- Help set individual goals and track client progress, noting any drastic changes, report findings to superiors
- Make phone calls and drive clients to appointments, meetings, events, etc. (This may include trips to Anchorage, Eagle River, Palmer Etc.)
- Encourage individual skill development and work towards community integration
- Follow all health and safety protocol
- Help clean and tidy home for the individuals
- Attend continuing education courses, training and get further certified as the job requires
- Be a compassionate, patient and encouraging support professional at all times
Direct Support Professional Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver’s license, dependable transportation, current car insurance
- CPR/FA certification (Must be a hands on course)
- Current TB Test (done annually)
- Pass a state and federal background check
- Comfortable working independently and can consistently make good judgments that benefit the client
- Flexible, with a keen ability to handle stress well
- Friendly disposition with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude
- Computer literate and technologically savvy
- Experience tracking and recording information
- Enjoy working with developmentally disabled individuals to improve their quality of life
- Can quickly manage stressful situations responsibly and effectively
- Strong interpersonal skills and passionate about helping those in need
- Ability to move and stand for prolonged periods and frequently perform physically demanding tasks
- Ability to work Morning, Afternoon and Evening shifts.
Qualifications, education, and experience required:
