What to expect
Generac Clean Energy Solutions is looking for a highly motivated Senior Director of Manufacturing and Design to lead DFM for Power Electronics, Battery Cabinets, and new product assemblies for clean energy solutions. You will be leading a team of 20 manufacturing and manufacturing test engineers to support the development of test and production equipment for Generac’s next-generation renewable energy products. You will be working cross functionally with product design engineering, supply chain, test engineering, product management, and contract manufacturers across North America.
You will be based out of Reno, NV but you will need to travel to other engineering sites as needed: Boston, Maine, and California.
What You’ll Do
Build relationships across all business groups fostering strong collaboration.
Lead the build of electrical systems and mechanical fixtures per blueprint specifications.
Lead inventory procurement process for all test systems based on BOM.
Lead static and kinematic studies to simulate assembly and equipment interactions.
Ensure content reduction, assembly simplification, and build-in-quality
Lead PFMEA, build sequence, and process layout development.
Lead product virtual builds with cross functional teams
Support prototype and design validation builds design and deliver proto manufacturing tooling, prepare bill of process, lead manufacturing trials, etc.
Support manufacturing validations builds at NPI facility and also at manufacturing plants.
Ensure the design and implement enclosure manufacturing processes & equipment.
Partner with contract manufacturers to ensure a successful ramp of new product launch in enclosures, castings, and cabinet assembly.
Provide product feedback to design engineering teams to ensure manufacturability without compromising product function or performance.
Serve as the voice of the supplier to internal engineering teams for EVT, DVT, and PVT build phases
Characterize and validate new equipment and fixtures on pilot lines
Lead development of new manufacturing processes
What You’ll Bring
BS Degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Industrial / Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical engineering is a plus.
10 years of experience as a Manufacturing/Mechanical/Automation Engineer.
5 years of experience Leading Manufacturing Design Engineers and Manufacturing Test Engineers.
5 years of experience in Battery Manufacturing engineering in Energy Storage or other products.
5 years of experience in Power Electronics Assembly.
Electrical and Electronics industries experience.
Must possess dimensional engineering skills.
Understanding of Design for Manufacturability principles.
Development of an automated workstation for assembly of Power Electronics, Switch gear, and Battery Enclosures.
Experience in manufacturing electrical cabinet enclosures.
Experience in Closures manufacturing process.
New product Introduction and Manufacturing Operations experience.
Proficient in the development and deployment of PFMEAs.
Experience performing DFM/DFA/DFT.
Experienced with SOLIDWORKS, and other similar software/tools.
Experience designing production line layouts in AutoCAD.
Good understanding of BOMs, manufacturability, process design, process validation, assembly methods, design reviews and cost reduction methodologies.
Ability to travel internationally to engage with manufacturing partners.
Travel required ~ 25%.
Preferred Qualifications:
5 years of experience leading and performing DFM/DFA/DFT for Battery Storage products and Power Electronics.
5 years of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and inspections, Expertise in tolerance/stack-up analysis.
Proficiency in designing mechanical equipment, fixturing and tooling in CAD (SolidWorks preferred, Catia is a plus).
Experience creating technical specifications for manufacturing equipment.
