The Director, Technical Applications is responsible for leading Generac's growing suite of technical products application strategy and development. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of electrical products and product application methods, with exceptional project management and team leadership skills. This position will collaborate across departments to ensure our products are accepted across different markets and utilities, meet all safety requirements, meet the needs of the business and drive growth.
This role will be responsible for leading a team of Technical Application Managers who are responsible for working with installers to ensure compliance with various code requirements. The team develops and leads training for local inspectors and members of the Generac dealer network to educate them on local code requirements and installation best practices. The team is also responsible for engaging in internal discussions to ensure real-time understanding of current codes and impending code additions and/or changes that may impact project and/or business direction and decisions.
This role will also lead a newly created team of Technical Business Development Managers who will be responsible for building and fostering strategic relationships with nationwide electrical Utility companies. These dedicated resources will improve our positioning with utilities to drive process efficiencies to include acceptance and adoption of Generac Residential products.

- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for technical applications managers aligned with business objectives and market trends beyond home standby, including all residential products.
- Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of technical professionals, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. Designs and directs the work of the team. Selects, coaches and develops staff. Sets clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team. Manages performance, recognizing achievement, providing feedback and administering progressive discipline when necessary.
- Training Strategic Direction & Oversight: Oversee the training for local inspectors and members of the Generac dealer network to educate them on local code requirements and best installation practices.
- Project Oversight: Oversee the Technical Application team’s facilitation with Authorities Having Jurisdictions (AHJs), code making officials, and National Electric Code (NEC).
- Utilities Strategy & Partnership: Develop utility partnership strategy for the company. Develop and foster relationships with key utilities. Identify lead contacts responsible for reviewing and approving new products/technologies. Serve as a liaison between Generac and prioritized utility companies. Take an active role to be part of the NEC panel discussion to influence codes and represent the strategic initiatives of Generac.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, and sales, to ensure NEC compliance, gather requirements, and provide technical guidance. Provide direction and oversight in support of internal discussions related to current code and impending code additions/changes that may impact project and/or business direction.
- Technology Assessment: Evaluate emerging technologies and products and assess their potential to enhance our technical applications and improve user experience and will drive utility adoption of current and future products and technologies.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the budget for technical applications team, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost-effectiveness.
- Compliance & Security: Ensure all technical applications comply with industry standards and regulations, prioritizing security, safety, and data protection.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 10 years of residential and/or industrial electrical experience
- A minimum of 8 years' experience in general business, sales, product management, engineering or another related field.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience leading a team of direct reports.

Certification / License
- Member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) or related industry organization member
- 10 years’ experience of residential and/or industrial electrical experience.
- Prior experience leading a field-based, highly technical team.
- Prior experience interfacing with and developing strong working relationships with U.S. based electrical utility companies.
- Expertise in electrical systems and troubleshooting to identify root cause
- Well versed in National Electric Codes and Standards
- Strong business and financial acumen
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
