Job Summary: The Engineering Manager - Fabrication is responsible for leading the fabrication engineering team and overseeing the design and development of fabricated components and assemblies. This role ensures that engineering standards are aligned with design for manufacturability principles and our fabrication processes to optimize product safety, quality, and cost.
Major Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of engineers and technicians in fabrication design, fostering innovation and professional growth.
- Project Oversight: Lead fabrication design projects from concept to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and engineering specifications.
- Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance on design for fabricated components / assemblies, materials, and technologies to ensure optimal product development.
- Process Improvement: Analyze existing fabricated component design processes and implement improvements to enhance safety, efficiency, quality, and cost.
- Collaboration: Work closely with business group product design teams, advanced manufacturing fabrication team, manufacturing plant teams, and quality assurance teams to align on project goals and resolve any technical challenges. Deploy standards and techniques across a global enterprise.
- Quality Management / Compliance / Product Safety: Establish and maintain regulatory agency guideline compliance and quality control protocols, ensuring all fabricated components meet industry standards and client specifications.
- Resource Management: Oversee the allocation and utilization of resources, including equipment, materials, and personnel, to maximize productivity.
- Training and Development: Develop training programs for team members to improve technical skills and knowledge related to fabrication processes.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in product development in a fabrication environment
- Minimum of 5 years leadership experience
- Experience in 3D modeling in Creo CAD Software
- Experience with implementing design for manufacturability in configurable products to create family platforms
- Experience designing sheet metal enclosures for large configurable industrial products
- Experience in deploying modular design platforms for product families
- Experience designing soft-tooled sheet metal components, stamped components, cast components, machined components, wire harnesses, and injection molded components
Education
- Master’s Degree or PhD in Engineering or Business
- Experience working with PTC PLM platform
- Working knowledge of fabrication CAD / CAM processes
- Experience working with UL listed products, specifically UL 2200
- Comprehensive understanding of safety regulations and best practices in a fabrication environment.
- Strong knowledge of fabrication technologies, materials science, and manufacturing processes; familiarity with CAD software is essential.
- Proven leadership abilities with strong communication and interpersonal skills to manage a diverse team.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to address technical challenges effectively.
