The New Product Introduction (NPI) Specialist is responsible for managing projects related to new product materials, including RFQs, tooling, PPAP, and material transfers. This role collaborates closely with the Strategic Global Sourcing (SGS) team and engages in cross-functional coordination. Additionally, the NPI Specialist supports sustaining end-of-life product changes that may impact material costs.

The New Product Introduction (NPI) Specialist is responsible for managing projects related to new product materials, including RFQs, tooling, PPAP, and material transfers. This role collaborates closely with the Strategic Global Sourcing (SGS) team and engages in cross-functional coordination. Additionally, the NPI Specialist supports sustaining end-of-life product changes that may impact material costs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the product platform value chain by ensuring timely material delivery to meet program milestones.
- Evaluate supplier quotations and negotiate using Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) principles, considering part/component costs and project timelines.
- Maintain and update the Costed Bill of Material (CBOM) for each NPI project.
- Oversee On-Time Delivery (OTD) performance of suppliers during prototype and development phases (Gate 1 to Gate 4).
- Manage PPAP orders for new and sustaining/end-of-life parts, overseeing order inception, quality inspections, and engineering approvals.
- Track individual part release statuses and collaborate with engineering to manage ongoing changes.
- Coordinate with production buyers to transfer purchasing responsibilities once PPAP approval is obtained.
- Oversee NPI and sustaining Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) that impact the three-year product plan.
- Handle tactical purchasing activities, including expediting materials, processing PG orders, managing past due and open POs, and resolving purchasing/accounting issues.
- Maintain and update standard costs throughout the NPI project and the sustaining phase of new parts.
- Lead technical design reviews with suppliers to ensure part/component functionality and manufacturability.
- Manage and update data in corresponding software systems (SAP, Ariba, etc) including production product costs, NPI project decks, risk assessments, mitigation plans, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Proven experience with engineering change processes.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional project management abilities.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and communicate insights effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to manage shifting deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with SAP or a similar ERP system.
- Understanding of inventory management principles.
- Background in the new product development cycle.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or a related field OR four years of relevant experience in a supply chain role within a comparable environment.
