General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. Under minimal supervision this position is responsible for inspecting a wide variety of parts, assemblies, tooling fixtures, and material to ensure compliance with customer requirements, quality requirements, and company specifications. Performs sensitive measurements, visual inspections, and mechanical inspections of complex, machined parts, materials, and assemblies for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications. Maintains, processes, and compiles a variety of confidential and sensitive electronic and hard copy reports, records, and statistics. Assignments are typically non-routine where judgment and assessment are required to resolve highly complex issues.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspects machined parts, components, assemblies, and materials using a variety of measurement tools to ensure compliance with appropriate regulatory guidelines (Military Standards, ASTM and ANSI, and ASME Code).
- Provides various electronic and hard copy reports of inspections and notifies appropriate parties including project engineers.
- May observe testing and provide oversight, as necessary, to verify compliance with requirements.
- Assists Management in allocating resources (scheduling, execution, follow-up) to ensure timely production support.
- May operate inspection measurement equipment including, calipers, micrometers, profilometers, Optical Comparator, ring gages, set-plugs, Hexagon Absolute Arm with software, etc. to achieve part acceptance, including equipment set up, inspection techniques, and final dimensional inspections while product is in-process manufacturing.
- May interact with and provide responses to regulatory agencies and customers during their audits and review of company inspection and calibration activities.
- May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
- May coordinate the procurement of standard materials, services, and parts for inspections.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
Job Qualifications
- Typically requires an associate's degree, trade school certificate, military training, or equivalent in quality inspections or certification by a professional group such as ASQ or AWS, and five or more years of progressive experience in electrical, mechanical, electromechanical or metrology inspection and calibration. May substitute additional experience in lieu of formal education and training.
- Must possess:
- Ability to read and understand complex engineering drawings and specifications and perform non-routine mathematical computations.
- Experience managing resources to support workload
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) level of knowledge in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- A thorough understanding of inspection hand tools (mics, calipers, height gages, etc…) as well as electronic measurement devices (laser trackers, FARO arms, vision machines, etc…)
- Strong communication skills to effectively interface with employees, managers, and vendors
- Ability to interpret highly complex information and independently respond to a variety of highly complex issues
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
- Strong computer and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently or lead in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required. Experience with SAP, ISO 9001, AS9100/9102 and DOD quality assurance program requirements are desirable.
- Current DOD security clearance is desired but not required.
