The primary responsibility is to lead the daily activities onboard the ship. Additionally, continuously assess the effectiveness of the implementation of the construction plan and recommend changes and initiatives to enhance safety, cost, schedule, and quality performance. This position is responsible for the assessment of performance issues (schedule and cost) and to develop and execute mitigation plans to minimize risk to the ship. Detailed Description of Work:• Provide daily leadership on the deck plate and or onboard the ship.• Assist the Director with the development of the Plan of the Week and to ensure the ships priorities are communicated clearly. Ensure the team understands the Plan of the Day.• Ensure all personnel working onboard have a safety conscious approach to their work and comply with established safety policies/procedures. • Ensure ship and surrounding area is a safe, clean working environment. Ensure proper care and protection of ship.• Coordinate the efforts of the ship's management team and supporting / supplier groups to ensure the Plan of the Week/Day is executed. Coordinate the resolution of problems as required.• Ensure adherence to construction schedules. Monitor progress to the Plan of the Week to ensure critical paths are achieved.• Monitor the cost effectiveness of shipboard work practices. Identify and implement actions to improve cost performance.• Develop and monitor actions to mitigate and correct cost variances. • Ensure first time product quality. Identify to Planning and earlier stage construction managers any jobs which should be achieved in earlier stages on follow ships to support lower cost. • Support the administration of the labor contract. Utilize workforce efficiently.• Foster a constructive working relationship with the customer. Coordinate the resolution of CARs with SSBA. • Have a leadership role in Continuous Process Improvement.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
Apprentice Graduate, Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a related area preferred.

• Minimum of 5 years in shipbuilding environment required, preferably in progressive levels of management in ship construction• Solid understanding of shipbuilding processes and MACPAC system• Understanding of current Local S6 contract or working experience in dealing with a union• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage conflict and multiple priorities• Effective leadership and communication skills
