Basic Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 15 years of demonstrated leadership; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 13 years of demonstrated leadership.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS :

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is highly desirable at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Director, Engineering for the Progeny Systems Business Area of the Maritime and Strategic Systems (M&SS) Line of Business (LoB). Progeny Systems is focused on supporting the U.S. Navys submarine force, including complete lifecycle support for mission-critical systems. Progenys stellar reputation with its Navy customers has resulted in an extensive portfolio that includes software and hardware platforms for weapon launch and control systems, acoustics, information assurance, cybersecurity, surveillance and multitiered architectures. Our primary location is Manassas, VA.

The successful candidate will report directly to the M&SS Engineering Vice President. You will have responsibility for the 500 plus employee engineering team and will be fully accountable for engineering execution within the Business Area.

You will be responsible for enhancing the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nations fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

Job Responsibilities :

Below are key responsibilities of the Progeny Systems Engineering Director

• Directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering efforts within Business Area
• People activities such as performance management, hiring, headcount management and forecasting, close collaboration with our Learning and Organizational Development team on training and development, and employee recognition
• Support key technical initiatives and / or problem resolution
• Collaborate across LoB and share resources where necessary, proactively anticipating needs
• Accountable for effective implementation of business-driven IR&D
• Provides leadership and technical / managerial content for proposals with identification of cross business unit strengths and technical shortcomings
• Leads improvements in engineering through process change and implementation of new methods / tools and application of appropriate resources
• Support the implementation of technology into the LoB, including AI
• Financial activities such as Engineering budgets / forecasts, capital / expense management, and financial analysis (direct / indirect labor usage)

The successful candidate will have direct experience in leading and growing teams who execute technologically complex programs in a changing environment.

Preferred candidate must have a clearly demonstrated background building enduring customer relationships, and an ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization.

Salary Note

This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.

Combined Salary Range

USD $217,410.40 - USD $241,189.60 / Yr.
