Overview
General Dynamics Electric Boat is pleased to provide an opportunity for high school students interested in our Shipyard Operations, to work as an intern in Groton Operations (Metal Trades or Carpentry).
During the course of the Groton Operations internship, each student will work under the guidance of a trained mentor selected by their respective union. They will contribute to the departments effort in current projects and mission.
Under the guidance of their mentor, interns will be exposed to our shipbuilding processes and gain experience with various tools used in Groton Operations. Students will have the opportunity to apply technical knowledge working hands-on as well as observe production through interaction with experienced employees in their assigned department.
Groton Operations Interns will belong to one of two unions while employed:
MTC- Metal Trades (Machine Trades, Sheetmetal, Piping Trades, Electrical, Welding, or Shipfitting)
EB Carpenters- Carpentry
Qualifications
Required:
- Junior year of high school must be completed
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Must be a US Citizen
- Interns will become employees of Electric Boat and union members for the duration of their summer internship
- Must meet EB employment requirements including Medical Screening & Hair Follicle Drug Test
- Must be available to work eight consecutive weeks between June 2024 and August 2024.
Preferred:
- Enrolled in a Technical Education Program At School – CTHSS Policy
- Recommended By Their Schools
