What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2024 SHIP Summer High School Intern Program - MDA position at General Dynamics Electric Boat?
Overview
General Dynamics Electric Boat is pleased to provide an opportunity for high school students enrolled in a drafting or engineering program, to work as an intern within one of our 4 Design disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Piping/Ventilation, Structural/Arrangements)
During the course of the Design internship, each student will work under the guidance of a trained mentor selected by their respective union. They will contribute to the departments effort in current projects and mission.
Under the guidance of their mentor, interns will be exposed to our shipbuilding processes and gain experience in their discipline. Students will have the opportunity to apply technical knowledge working hands-on as well as observe production through interaction with experienced employees in their assigned departments.
Interns will belong to the union while employed.
Qualifications
Required:
- Junior year of high school must be completed
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Must be a US Citizen
- Interns will become employees of Electric Boat and union members for the duration of their summer internship
- Must meet EB employment requirements including Medical Screening & Hair Follicle Drug Test
- Must be available to work eight consecutive weeks between June 2024 and August 2024.

Skills
Demonstrated proficiency in drafting (portfolio) with Computer Aided Design (CAD) is required (Autocad/CATIA/NX preferred).
