The Driver / Transportation Operator's main function will be safely operating tractor trailers within the shipyard and to and from off-site buildings. The driver will be delivering and scanning freight to operations in various areas of the facility which results in frequent stops. Scanning and delivering material will be done in all types of weather.
Other functions of the driver's responsibility will be to operate a large capacity forklift up to 50 ton capacity. Some tasks of operating the 50 ton lift will be to assist the rigging department with major moves, loading and unloading flatbeds.
This position is to support 2nd shift.
This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3 years of commercial driving experience
- A valid Class A (CDL) license (must present document at the time of interview)
- Must obtain a Hazmat DOT certification within 3 months of being hired
- Must obtain an Electric Boat forklift license for general service lifts and 50 ton forklift within 6 months of hire
- Must be capable of passing a DOT physical.
- A current medical certificate (must present document at the time of interview)
- An air brake endorsement (must present document at the time of interview)
- Must be able to work all shifts and in extreme temperature conditions as required
- Candidates must be familiar with the operating characteristics of various road tractors and trailers, stake body trucks, backhoes and heavy capacity forklifts
- Will be required to safely operate road tractors tow 40' to 46' trailers
- Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends to satisfy production demands and be able to operate above equipment for extended periods of time
Preferred:
- Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
