The Quonset Point Test department, 972, is hiring electrical technicians to perform acceptance testing in support of Virginia and Columbia class submarine construction. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Use of electrical test equipment such as volt/ohm/multi-function meters, power supplies, light sources, etc.
- Continuity checks of copper and fiber optic cabling
- Insulation resistance & megger testing
- Ground verification
- Tag out of electrical equipment
- Work with energized and de-energized circuits
- Inspection of cable marking, termination, and installation
- Recording of data in accordance with technical work documents
- Troubleshooting of test failures, followed by authoring of resolutions for Trades
- Work individually or as part of a team
- Work in as well as promote a safety conscious environment
This work will be performed both in the shop and onboard submarines under construction. Technicians are trained and required to obtain “electrical test director” qualification.
This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Working knowledge of electrical and/or electronic theory
- Able to work in confined spaces and in areas that are not climate controlled
- Basic math skills including percentages, decimals, and division
- Strong reading comprehension skills
- Basic computer skills
- Individuals will be required to possess their own basic hand tools
- Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense
Preferred:
- 2 years’ experience in a relevant electrical occupation
- Prior testing and/or Military experience
- Troubleshooting experience
- Familiarity with procedures and electrical drawings
- Demonstrated aptitude for teamwork
- Ability to communicate and understand technical language

- Candidate has a willingness to learn new processes, techniques, and exposure to unique equipment designs.
- Must possess strong communication, computer skills and interpersonal skills.
