Overview
Delivering 1 COLUMBIA and 2 VIRGINIA Class submarines each year is critical to our nation's defense, and D931 needs you to help us achieve it! The Industrial Engineering organization provides mission-critical support to EB Leadership and the functional organizations by developing and managing the organization's improvement strategies, measuring the impact of improvement activities, and establishing the processes for the simultaneous build of VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class submarines.
This team's mission is to improve Quonset Point's shipbuilding velocity to achieve the 1 COLUMBIA and 2 VIRGINIA Class delivery rate across manufacturing, steel, and outfitting. Day-to-day, you will have opportunities to interface and grow working relationships across operations, design and engineering, planning, ships management, and the naval customer, to identify improvement opportunities and help drive them to implementation. Good communication skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills are needed and will be further developed in this role.
This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.
Key responsibilities of the position will include:
- Organizing and facilitating rapid improvement events to identify improvement opportunities
- Development of business cases to secure funding for improvement opportunities
- Project management of improvement opportunities from inception through implementation
- Frequent coordination and interface with operations to identify and address constraints to achieving the production rate
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, or equivalent technical degree
- Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of QP Operations (Montalbano)
- Previous Industrial Engineering experience
- Familiarity with manufacturing and/or naval shipbuilding processes
Preferred:
- Experience interfacing with NAVSEA, Naval Reactors, and/or Naval Nuclear Laboratory
- Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma
- Experience interfacing with operations/trades, including operations/trades leadership
Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be capable of working both independently and in a team environment.
- A highly motivated problem solver who is well organized with strong project management skills.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
