Overview
Washington, D.C. - The Washington Engineering Office (WEO) is a programmatic and engineering services organization that liaisons with Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Submarine Directorate Program Managers and engineering engaged in the support of Undersea Warfare enterprise operations. The Engineer will maintain a daily liaison with NAVSEA’s PEOSSBN and PEOSSN in-service program offices (PMS396 & PMS392). The Engineer will be responsible for the tracking and resolution of technical, logistical, and programmatic issues surrounding NAVSEA review and approval of OHIO Class modernization packages and OHIO and VIRGINIA Class temporary alterations, and will assist with preparation for COLUMBIA Class modernization efforts.
This dynamic position focuses on liaison responsibilities between NAVSEA and Electric Boat, with a smaller percentage of in-depth technical review work.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Establish and maintain internal and external professional relationships across several cross-functional teams
- Develop coordinated planning documents, tracking tools, and meeting agendas in support of alteration development and approval
- Interface with NAVSEA and Electric Boat stakeholders to generate letters and product deliverable packages for official release
- Effectively communicate various technical, logistical, and programmatic issues with NAVSEA and Electric Boat task managers
- Read and understand contract performance metrics and be able to comprehensively explain the metrics to NAVSEA stakeholders
- Track ILS products at NAVSEA for approval, coordinating with authoring departments in Groton
- Perform technical review and routing of temporary alteration (TEMPALT) packages for SSBNs/SSGNs and SSNs
- Liaison between Electric Boat and NAVSEA for technical inquiries regarding alteration products
This is a hybrid work environment, with up to 40% being remote. Relocation to the greater Washington, D.C. area (D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia) is required.
This role requires an understanding of submarine non-propulsion systems.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s in Engineering with at least 1 year of engineering work experience
- Ability to manage data and create reports from various database systems
- Experience interacting with external customer organizations
Preferred:
- Structural and/or mechanical engineering experience
- Experience interacting with NAVSEA or TYCOM personnel (remotely or in-person)
- Knowledge of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) products and shipyard test procedures
- Knowledge of submarine maintenance, modernization, and sustainment procedures
- Experience with SSBN and/or SSN maintenance plans and operation cycles
- Experience with Teamcenter and associated Integrated Product Development Environment (IPDE) tools
- Experience working with naval maintenance activities and in-service engineering agents (ISEAs) or participating managers (PARMs)
- Active Secret clearance or higher
