What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health & Exercise Specialist (fitness) position at General Dynamics Electric Boat?
Overview
The Health and Exercise Specialist will assist the Supervisor of HR and Benefits/Wellness Manager in the formulation and implementation of fitness-related initiatives at Electric Boat both in the fitness centers and as requested by individual departments. Please see below for core responsibilities and expectations:
- This position reports to Supervisor of HR.
- Processing member registrations, renewals, cancellations and other administrative tasks as assigned.
- Ensuring machines are updated, clean, and in working condition – report any malfunctions to the preventive services equipment provider; provide a safe, debris-free environment.
- Supervising workouts, perform fitness assessments and provide exercise modifications for existing injuries or exercise preferences
- Providing one-on-one personal training and develop individualized workout plans to address employee’s specific fitness and wellness goals
- Teaching a variety of weekly fitness classes
- Provide written and digital health and exercise content to Wellness Specialist including articles, blog posts and audio/video recordings in support of EB’s Wellness program
- Support EB’s Sprains and Strains Injury Prevention program by providing in person stretching demonstration to employees in the shipyard
- Develop new Fitness Center classes, programs and initiatives aimed at increasing membership and support member engagement
- Perform biometric screenings including BMI, body fat testing, cholesterol and other health screenings.
- Support blood drives, health fairs, immunization clinics and other on-site events coordinated by EB Benefits and Wellness department.
- Attending and supporting EB’s community partnership initiatives.
***The Health and Exercise Specialist is a full time position, Monday through Friday with varied work hours. Rare weekend hours for special events.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Current certification, or working towards a certification, in group fitness and personal training from a nationally recognized fitness organization (ACSM, ACE, NASM, or NCSA preferred). Certified CrossFit Trainer (CCFT) or Certified CrossFit Coach (CCFC) also acceptable.
- 0-2 years of experience in private, commercial or corporate fitness center performing fitness assessments, supervising workouts and general center administration.
- Must be physically capable of demonstrating the use of all fitness center equipment and conducting fitness center assessment
- Must be able to work varied work hours between 1st and 2nd shift
- Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of Operations (Gildart/Gabriel)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in exercise physiology, kinesiology, human performance, or wellness field with strong emphasis in health and fitness
- Certification in a variety of specialist group fitness classes including but not limited to: Spin, Yoga, Pilates.
- Additional Specialty Certifications including but not limited to Corrective Exercise Specialist (NASM-CES); Certified Nutrition Coach (NASM-CNC) are preferred.
- Strong computer skills required with MS Office software and website capabilities such as SharePoint sites.
