What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Machinist position at General Dynamics Electric Boat?
Overview
In this role the successful applicant must be proficient in performing repairs, maintenance, installation and troubleshooting on machinery, mechanical equipment, motors, pumps, and production machines, using hand tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments.
Working in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, manufacturer specifications is required. Applicant will be required to observe/listen to all machinery/operating mechanics, equipment, motors, etc., while troubleshooting. Small steel fabrication projects will also be required, i.e., repair/fabrication of stairs and platforms.
Applicant must be able to work independently and within a team environment while complying with department and company procedures.
Applicant must be able to work overtime when required, support emergency situations as they arise and support department goals.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Maintenance Machinist must have five (5) years of mechanical/hydraulic experience in industrial and/or commercial environments.
Preferred:
- Mechanical training certificate(s) preferred.
- Trade/technical school experience is preferred.
Skills
- Basic tool applications and use.
- Using rulers, calipers, micrometers and other measuring instruments.
- Operating lathes, drill presses, grinders and other metal working tools to make and repair parts/equipment.
