The Opportunity:
General Dynamics Electric Boat, the world’s foremost designer and builder of nuclear submarines, is seeking a Manufacturing System Engineer (Sr., Specialist) to join the organization within the EB Information Technology (EBIT) Department. The current business needs and demands are ever rapidly changing and require an agile, flexible, analytical candidate to join EBIT.
Position Summary:
In the IT System Engineer position, you will be expected to ask questions, communicate openly, and get out of your seat and comfort zone. This is NOT a Software Development role, the successful candidate will possess the technical aptitude required to work closely with Software Developers, but will not be developing software themselves. The role will primarily focus on providing technical support for the various operations trades including Nuclear and Non-Nuclear inspectors and analysts at Quonset Point, ensuring seamless integration and optimization between our design and execution systems.
The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical teams and shopfloor personnel. The candidate will join an already established core group of IT system engineers at Quonset Point, as the first line of support to the trades and other support organizations.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelors of Science in Engineering or Computer related technologies, including Management Information Systems (MIS)
- 4 - 13 years of related work experience (Senior or Specialist level only)
- The ability to solve complex technical problems, while also distilling complex information to present to varying levels of management within the organization
- The ability to consult clients/customer in order to configure systems in line with business needs
Preferred:
- Experience with business/systems analysis
- Knowledge of verification and validation techniques
- Experience using MRP systems (Manufacturing Resource Planning) and Electronic Record System (ERS)
- Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial facility
- General knowledge of welding and joint design
- Experience with or knowledge of inspecting weld joints
- Experience in writing SQL queries to interrogate intricate details of large datasets
- Experience in creating and reviewing documentation, including operating procedures, training documents, and trouble hooting guides, for shopfloor personnel or quality assurance inspectors
