Overview
The Manager of Crane Engineering, Maintenance and Test will have engineering cognizance of lifting and handling equipment used at Electric Boat's Groton Shipyard. In addition, the selected canidate will be responsible for the safety and the performance of the Crane Engineers, Mechanics, Electricians, Riggers and vendors who perform the maintenance and testing of lifting equipment at Groton. Furthermore, the Manager must ensure that all work is performed in accordance with Navy, OSHA, ASME and ANSI standards and is completed with consideration for production.
Additionally, the Manager will be responsible for the SPS Issue Point and will interpret NAVSHIPS 7000 manual for all EB users. The Manager will be responsible for process improvements to improve equipment safety and efficiency. He/She will be the primary point of contact with the Navy Crane Center on all matters related to lifting and handling equipment. The Manager will report on and manage department overhead budget for D507.

The candidate must possess the ability to build and maintain relationships with MTC, MDA, Operations, Vendors, Facilities Engineering, and Navy Customer personnel. The ability to work independently in a fast paced, detail oriented environment is crucial.

Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 6 years of related experience in an engineering, operations, or maintenance organization associated with lifting & handling equipment.
- 3 years of Supervisor/General Foreman experience
- An understanding of lifting & handling equipment and rigging practices.
Preferred:
- BS in Engineering
- 5 years Supervisor/General Foreman experience
- 10 years of related experience in and engineering, operations, or maintenance organization is preferred
- Familiarity with NAVSHIPS 7000 manual and NAVFAC P-307
- Experience with a successful surveillance program
Skills
- Strong reading and writing skills are required.
- Experience with EB, Industry Standards and Navy requirements regarding lifting and handling equipment (ie. ASME, ASTM, OSHA, ANSI, NEC, NAVSHIPS 7000 Manual, MDD-02354, etc).
- Applicant must have a proven record of progress toward performance goals and process improvement.
- Applicant must be available to work overtime including emergent situations, extended hours and occasional weekends.
- Applicant must apply for or possess a security clearance as a condition of employment.
