Basic Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a related specialized area or field, or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS : Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required within a reasonable period. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
As an
Engineering Documentation Specialist
Sr Tech Writing Spec) at GDMS, you will collaborate in a team environment to create and validate technical documentation for our Navy customers and sailors. Given our focus on defense and national security, accurate and clear documentation is essential for ensuring front-line decision makers have the best tools and information about our systems. Your mission is to produce exceptionally well-written and presented materials, and to develop the infrastructure and tools needed to create and maintain this documentation across our product range.
Your responsibilities will include creating technical procedures, user guides, release notes, troubleshooting guides, and descriptive documentation. You will work closely with engineering, product, and business teams throughout all phases of product development, including design, development, testing, and operation. Your goal is to ensure that our customers have access to the right documentation at every stage.

Generate, review, and edit documentation that is user-focused and of the highest qualityContribute to our technical writing tools, working on everything from style guides to the documentation lifecycle and review processWork with Engineering to deliver accurate and compliant documentation that not only informs and instructs, but provides a straightforward user experienceSolid knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammarStrong written communication skills and the ability to tailor communication to target audience through effective listening and interviewing skillsSolid understanding of DoD MIL standards and style guides and the ability to adhere to and implement such standards to technical documentationPassion to learn new information quickly and handle increasing responsibilities with growing complexityA team player who thrives in collaborative environments and revels in team successThe ability to thrive with a high level of autonomy and responsibility, managing competing demands and occasional tight deadlines
Required Qualifications
2 years of demonstrated excellence generating technical documentation for an informed audienceAdvanced skills with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and PDF file type formatsUnderstanding and demonstrated practice of documentation revision / version controlExperience reading and interpreting software and hardware user documentation, complex technical products, and highly structured certification processesExperience working in digital collaboration environments such as Teams and SharePoint. Prior use of document automation platforms, for example PandaDoc, would be a benefit.Basic development proficiency - we value the ability to apply technical best practices to documentation systemsDemonstrated passion for excellent documentation and user experiencesClear and persuasive writing and in-person communication skills, for a variety of audiences
