They interpret internal and external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products, processes, or services while staying informed of industry trends that may influence their work.Job DescriptionRole Summary / PurposeThe Senior Commercial Counsel provides ongoing legal advice and support to business leaders across the Supply Chain organization of GE Aerospace. The Legal and Compliance team, of which you would be a part, is a dynamic and experienced group of commercial and legal professionals who serve as GE Aerospace’s internal subject matter authorities on all legal matters. The commercial counsel hired for this role will be a sophisticated, business-oriented attorney who can work effectively across all levels of the organization. You will collaborate with other legal groups and cross-functional business teams (including Compliance, Intellectual Property, Programs / Supply Chain, and Engineering) to strategize on, draft, and negotiate a wide variety of agreements spanning the GE Aerospace portfolio.Essential ResponsibilitiesProvide ongoing legal advice and support to senior leaders principally related to Supply Chain matters, which may include : Advising on purchasing in support of commercial or U.S. government business, addressing disputes with suppliers, and other related commercial and compliance issues.Collaborating with and facilitating cross-team decision-making among the legal team, business teams, and other internal teams.Structuring, interpreting, and negotiating complex deals.Providing legal advice to colleagues on legal and business issues.Evaluating and advising business colleagues on the legal and commercial risk being undertaken in a particular action, transaction, or agreement.Supporting audits relating to emerging risks as well as corrective actions, and implementing strategies that will protect the business and manage business risk.Using lean thinking necessary to simplify processes and reduce cycle time, including development of standard practices and web-based tools.Anticipating and driving solutions for unassigned legal and business issues and growth initiatives.Managing referral of matters to in-house legal specialists and occasionally outside counsel.Training company employees regarding contract best practices and legal principles affecting their work scope.Qualifications / RequirementsJuris Doctorate from an accredited law school.A minimum of 7 years of legal experience as a practicing attorney at a law firm, in-house, in government service, or at a comparable organization.Member in good standing with the State Bar.Desired CharacteristicsEstablished analytical ability and excellent communication and advocacy skills, with an aptitude for practical negotiation, clear thinking, and succinct communication to all levels of an organization.Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to influence others to deliver on commitments and work with cross-functional teams.Ability to develop process-driven solutions for recurring issues.Ability to handle multiple inquiries and assignments in a time-pressured environment, and composure to satisfy multiple, and sometimes competing objectives.Creativity, vision, and sound judgment in developing and implementing legal solutions to problems.Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial or financial agreements.Law firm or in-house experience in the following practice areas : commercial, litigation, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring, corporate, or corporate finance.This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
