Perform the daily operations of plants to ensure reliability and consistency on the production line. Includes Service Shops. Impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team. Has significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities :

  • Drive a safety & quality first mindset within the shop and cultivate an open reporting culture within the facility.
  • Lead Flight Deck initiatives to drive continuous improvement through projects, kaizens and strategic initiatives.
  • Own service value stream within the shop from pre-induction to return to service working cross functionally with operations, quality, EHS, materials and planning.
  • Act as backup accountable manager, contribute to SMS deployment and promote problem solving culture.
  • Manage 50 employees with a mix of salary, hourly and contract workers to deliver to customer TAT and quality expectations.
  • Manage an operation, business, unit, or part of a production facility in order to reach defined targets in quality, cost, delivery and safety. Ensure continuous business improvement according to benchmarks and standards. Team management of salaried employees.
  • Typically a 1st line manager of professionals or a 2nd line manager of a professional department. Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice / quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational / product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
  • Availability to work flexible shift patterns as required, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability and willingness to support calls during off-hours when emergency situations arise.

Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and 5 years of manufacturing or operations experience (or a minimum high school diploma / GED with an additional 4 years of of manufacturing or operations experience).
  • Desired Characteristics :

  • Proven leadership experience, including experience leading initiatives of moderate scope and impact.
  • Continuous improvement experience. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
  • Lean manufacturing background.
  • Experience driving business initiatives.
  • Experience managing KPIs.
  • Exposure to FAR 145 engine repair station ideal.
  • Demonstrated quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
