Programs and Public Policy Specialist
JOB TITLE: Programs and Public Policy Specialist
DEPARTMENT IN GFWC: Programs
REPORTS TO: Chief of Operations
JOB SUMMARY:
The Programs and Public Policy Specialist oversees the programmatic activities of GFWC including GFWC programs, strategic partnerships, and Affiliate Organizations. Additionally, the specialist monitors legislation relevant to GFWC resolutions in cooperation with the GFWC Legislation/Public Policy Chairman and the Resolutions Committee Chairman; communicates with appropriate GFWC elected and appointed; coordinates member recognition programs; and responds to member requests for information.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee GFWC programs and affiliates and make programmatic recommendations to GFWC leadership based on participation, effectiveness, and feedback.
- Manage and maintain effective relationships with Affiliate Organizations and program partners to promote and enhance GFWC policy initiatives, community service programs, and special programs.
- Seek out new Affiliate Organizations, program partners, and relationships with organizations whose missions align with GFWC.
- Conduct organizational program evaluations and make recommendations to leadership.
- Work with GFWC leadership to identify public policy priorities, develop strategies that allow members to engage in GFWC’s advocacy efforts, and identify potential organizations engaging in similar efforts and foster cooperative relationships.
- Monitor legislation at the federal and state levels as it relates to GFWC resolutions and programs, advising chairmen on status and supporting recommended advocacy activities.
- Promote member advocacy participation through GFWC’s Legislative Action Center.
- Develop, promote, and edit content on the organization’s Legislative Action Center.
- Develop content for GFWC webinars and identify potential partners and external experts.
- Manage GFWC member recognition programs: awards, contests, and scholarships.
- Coordinate GFWC’s annual and statistical reporting processes.
- Represent GFWC at conferences and on regularly held conference calls.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, public relations, or related fields.
- Two years’ experience working in non-profit program management and legislative action.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and a commitment to customer service.
- Attention to accuracy and detail in all aspects of responsibilities; excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Familiarity with project management software and Voter Voice Legislative Action Center or similar legislative software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Grant writing experience desired.
- Non-profit experience and knowledge of U.S. women’s history a plus.
