OVERVIEW
The R&D Scientist II is part of the NTS Protein team in the Ag & Food Solutions pillar, leading and supporting protein technology development and protein forward product launches in partnership with our various ITQ teams. As the R&D Scientist II, you are joining a team that is preparing for the future, driving business growth, delivering HMM, innovation and competitive advantage.
The position touches many of our OU’s and product platforms (Snacks, Morning Foods Cereal & Dairy, Meals & Baking, Foodservice, and Pet) in varied ways: uncovering what protein can deliver for innovation, achieving and maintaining protein claims, elucidating and/or enhancing protein functionality, delivering nutrition, etc. You will have the opportunity for technology exploration in the lab and pilot plant as well as close connections to product launches. Initial projects will work most closely with the Cereal team.
The right candidate for this role will leverage strong innovation, project leadership, and technical problem-solving skills (tap into protein expertise internally and externally, leverage DOE, leverage our processing experts, etc.), to create new and continuously improve existing products and processes.
The projects you manage in this role will provide you with technical depth and breadth, as well as cross-functional and global exposure.
In this role you will have the opportunity to develop the ability to influence across organization, advance technical possibilities, and develop leadership skills as a subject matter expert in protein technology.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Support a wide range of project activities including product-processing interactions, protein-forward product formulation, analytical testing & method development, and scouting for new ideas and technologies applicable to prioritized areas
- Lead multiple initiatives from creation through development and possibly support commercialization
- Manage and lead technically complex projects: create technical plans, timelines, risk assessments, and mitigation plans; identify opportunities by challenging formulation and processing assumptions
- Support scale-up from bench to pilot plant to plant
- Collaborate with R&D application and technology teams to develop technologies for innovation, renovation, supply resiliency, and/or HMM
- Leverage external partners to develop winning solutions for General Mills
- Independently consult, design, and manage the appropriate product stability studies to meet product robustness needs and enhance product foundational knowledge
- Opportunity for extended NTS community roles, depending on skills, passion, and development needs
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors Degree in Food Science or other related fields
- 3 years of experience in product development or an applied science
- Strong technical problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to challenge assumptions and build robust technical plans to test hypotheses
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with protein technology
- Demonstrated ability to manage and lead multiple complex, large-scale, technically-driven projects from concept to commercialization
- Strong leadership and strategic thinking
- Ability to collaborate in a cross-functional and external environment and provide key product guidance
- Applicable Research and development experience in innovation, renovation, and HMM or technology development

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $67300.00 - $101200.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifictions, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
