The Role
As a Software Engineering Manager at General Motors, you will guide development teams to raise the bar on user experience, quality, and performance. You'll be responsible for planning, coordinating, and clearly communicating project details to all stakeholders. Your role involves encouraging innovation within your teams, allowing them to explore new ideas and technologies. You are expected to touch and contribute at every level of the technology stack, including but not limited to client-side Javascript, large-scale real-time data processing, and high-performance API services. You will work with autonomous teams - all of whom love to get their hands dirty, develop new products and tools while keeping an eye on the overall system’s quality, performance, and scalability.
What You'll Do
- Be both a highly technical, hands-on coder and effective people manager.
- Capable of hosting technical discussions, being a subject matter expert, and having strategic influence.
- Own and drive complex technical projects from the planning stage through execution.
- Create a team environment that encourages innovation and continuous learning.
- Balance the adoption of new technologies with practical, efficient solutions.
- Keep up with technological advancements and integrate them to enhance our engineering practices.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other teams to align technological development with business goals and user needs.
