Semiconductor Direct Purchase Buyer

Job Description

You will be responsible for purchase of all or a specific portion of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling and/or services.

Responsible for actively participating in development of commodity strategy, sourcing/negotiations, global/regional material budget execution, and interface with suppliers or internal stakeholders. Work is of a complex nature involving a considerable amount of initiative, analytical work and a high level of independent judgment.

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate across Global Purchasing and Supply Chain) as well as with our suppliers (Tier1 and semiconductor) to confirm future supply plan
  
• Collaborate with Purchasing commodity teams and Semiconductor Supply Chain Buyers to identify semiconductors available in the market for critical constraints
  
• Develop / maintain a collaborative relationship with key suppliers to support efficient purchases in a rapidly moving market
  
• Go fast, while being cautious ensuring quality semiconductors are purchased through support from suppliers and GM stakeholders (Supplier Quality & Engineering)
  
• Execute POs and maintain related documentation to ensure awareness and alignment of cross-functional organizations
  
• Explore opportunities to enhance our semiconductor purchase process and other processes within the team
  
• Assist with semiconductor supply chain mapping
  
• Support investigation of semiconductor supply alternative and reallocation opportunities

Additional Job Description

Required Skills:

• 2 years of purchasing and/or supply chain or related professional experience
  
• Professional interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
  
• Self-starter. Ability to work independently and self-directed
  
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary complex projects
  
• High level of analytical ability where problems can be complex
  
• Ability to prioritize, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines
  
• Demonstrated competence in negotiating skills

Preferred Skills:

• Proven supply chain crisis management support
  
• Automotive strategic commodity purchasing experience
  
• Ability to travel on a limited basis (5% or less) including international travel

Educational Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, or related degree/experience
  
• Advanced degree and/or MBA preferred
