Experience
Minimum of two years in a manufacturing production environment
Minimum of two years in machine operation, programming or fabricated metal estimating role – Production Estimating
Minimum of two years in Toolmaking or tool estimating role – Tooling Estimator
Minimum of two years in Machinist, programmer or estimating role – Prototype Estimator
Qualifications and Competencies
To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be able to produce coherent written documents that are free of spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors, possess a reasonably optimistic and supportive attitude, and maintain the strictest confidence regarding all issues and information regarding the company’s operations, its employee, financial matters, and personal matters of which the employee may become aware in the course of their work. The individual will also maintain competency with the following programs and equipment:

General Description
General Stamping & Metalworks has committed to aggressively pursuing growth.
The Estimator will be principally responsible for accurately estimating the direct cost (material, resource, time) of producing a specific part or assembly, tool or prototype.
- Component parts within 24 hours of RFQ receipt
- Prototype within customer due date
- Tooling within customer due date
This job description is intended to be an overview of primary responsibilities for this position. All employees are charged with providing assistance in generally similar duties when management deems it necessary. Special projects and activities may also be created where employees’ talents can best be utilized. In addition, General Stamping & Metalworks is a growing organization responding to an ever-changing market. It is expected that tasks and requirements will change from time to time and employees will be asked to respond as needed and within reason.
Organizational Relationships and Authority
The Estimator reports directly to the VP of Business Development of the company and works collaboratively with engineers, accountants, programmers, technologists, and Supply Chain Employees to complete estimates on time. There are currently no direct reports associated with this position; however the Estimator has the responsibility to voice concerns discovered during the estimation process regarding tolerances, or feasibility issues with those parties responsible for resolution.
Key Responsibilities
Estimator – Tooling
- Visiting Customers along with Business Development Manager to understand Prototype needs
- Interpreting blue prints to understand and select the appropriate work centers based on the operation needs and resource capability
- Accurately estimating the material, labor and burden costs to produce a prototype or machined, stamping die, weld fixture or inspection device
- Assist in tryout process machining or prototype parts
- Using software to convert CAD models to develop flat blank sizes and weight for accurate costing
- Calculating coil sizes
- Appling rates for additional transactional costs when appropriate
- Determine project milestones and ensure they are met so that projects are delivered to the delight of our customers assist in tryout process of tooling
- Selecting methods of manufacturing that meet customer specifications, optimize equipment and labor resources at the lowest total cost to GSM
Additional Tasks
- Requesting quotes for specialty raw material and outside processes from Purchasing
- Collaborating with Manufacturing Engineers to build estimating standards when practical
- Participating in process improvement events as requested
- Participating in time studies as requested
- Collaborating with Purchasing to locate possible outside operation suppliers
