Our manufacturing facility and headquarters is in Springfield, Oregon. This facility provides high quality products at a competitive price. This is a collaborative team providing solutions, executing in a dynamic environment, and delivering high quality products to our customers. Our Springfield location has grown to a seven acre, seventeen-bay complex in Springfield, Oregon, which includes the manufacturing facility of trailers and equipment as well as service facilities for repair and maintenance of most trailer and equipment types. This includes custom manufacturing, sandblasting, painting, metal forming and other related services. We also serve as a dealer for several complementary trailer brands in the Northwest Region. We have 2 service and repair centers and 4 sales offices in Oregon, Washington and California.
Today, our trailers and parts products are known worldwide. As a custom builder, General Trailer has designed and built many special custom trailers for the United States military, state and local governments, and private industry.
Position Summary
The Service and Repair Technician will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and service. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving skills to ensure that our trailers operate at peak performance and meet customer satisfaction.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Inspection and Diagnosis:
- Perform detailed inspections and diagnostics on construction trailers to identify issues and malfunctions.
- Analyze symptoms and perform root cause analysis to determine appropriate repairs or replacements.
Repair and Maintenance:
- Conduct repairs and servicing on a variety of trailer components, including electrical systems, hydraulics, brakes, suspension, and structural elements.
- Replace or repair defective parts, components, and systems as needed.
Customer Interaction:
- Communicate effectively with customers to understand their concerns and provide updates on repair progress.
- Offer professional recommendations for maintenance or upgrades to enhance trailer performance and longevity.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of all repairs, maintenance, and service activities.
- Complete service reports and ensure all documentation is properly filed and updated.
Quality Assurance:
- Test repaired trailers to verify that all issues have been resolved and that the trailer meets safety and performance standards.
- Ensure that all work is completed in compliance with safety, company policies and industry regulations.
Inventory Management:
- Manage and track parts and supplies required for repairs and maintenance.
- Order and maintain an adequate inventory of essential parts and tools.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while working on trailers and using equipment.
- Stay up-to-date with industry standards and regulations to ensure compliance.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in service and repair, preferably with logging and heavy haul trailers or similar equipment.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and specialized repair equipment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to think critically and resolve complex issues.
- Ability to work in various conditions, including outdoor environments.

- PPE must always be worn when in the manufacturing and service facility or storage yard.
