The Role:
This is a full time Contractor role with budget through 12/19/25
Generate:Biomedicines is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and innovative Contractor, Associate Scientist, Large-Scale Biotherapeutics Purification to contribute to the development of our drug discovery platform and to drive delivery of our therapeutic pipeline. She/he will be responsible for inventories, aliquoting, performing protein purification and characterization at various scales across a range of different protein modalities, supporting our growing portfolio of projects from mammalian (Transient & Stable) as well as bacterial (E.coli) derived material at both our Somerville, MA and Andover, MA locations.
Responsibilities:
- Freezer inventory management and sample aliquoting
- Perform multi-step protein purifications of various protein modalities (mabs, Fc-fusions, his tags, bi-specifics fabs, etc) leveraging different affinity tags, secondary chromatography, and polishing steps on AKTA systems.
- Assess protein quality metrics for all proteins produced within the team using Agilent systems, HCP/ ProA ELISAs, UV spectrometry, endotoxin assays, SDS-PAGE gels.
- Help explore, assess, and bring in-house state of the art technologies to enhance and continuously improve efficiencies across internal platforms.
- Efficiently accomplish project goals on time and update the team with progress.
- Contribute to non-GMP early-stage R&D purification development from Transient HEK, Transient CHO, Stable CHO and E. coli derived material.
- Detailed documentation of experiments and data on our internal LIMS systems, electronic notebook and presentations to project teams.
Required Skills/Experience:
- MSc/4 years of related experience or a BSc/6 years of related experience for an Associate Scientist. Strong candidates will be considered at the Senior Research Associate level with MSc/2-4 years of related experience or a BSc/4-6 years of related experience. Industry experience strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 1 years MS/ 3 yrs BS/ of biologics purification experience in a biotech/pharma setting
- Experience with standard chromatography methods in the Biotherapeutic Discovery and Development setting
- AKTA and Agilent systems or equivalent
- Must be able to run ELISAs, SDS-PAGE, Westerns, and take UV spectrometry measurements
- Buffer Preparation
- Demonstrate sterile aseptic techniques
- Track record of helping to deliver biotherapeutic assets to clinical development
- Proven time management skills
- Excellent communication, attention to detail, documentation, organizational, and technical writing skills
Desired Skills:
- Preparative Affinity, SEC, IEX, HIC, Mixed Mode chromatography
- Analytical Affinity, IEX, HIC, Mixed Mode, SEC. RP
- Familiarity with Inventory databases and ELN
