Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. Must be able to read, write, and follow oral instructions. On-the-job training and active CNA certification.
Experience: One year in health care facility preferred.
Position Summary:
The individual holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current and existing federal and state regulations, as well as established company policies and procedures.
Assists professional nursing staff by performing duties in caring for residents of the facility; work under supervision of professional nurses; assist residents in activities of daily living as needed; provide safety, comfort, and well-being of residents and provide medication management services.
Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering simple treatments and providing related bedside resident care service. Understanding of standard techniques used in providing personal services for resident and in caring for equipment and supplies. Good understanding of basis of asepsis and sterile techniques to avoid infection of residents and self or contamination of equipment and supplies, and be aware of the assessment process and notification of physician procedures.
The person holding this position will receive eight hours of instruction regarding the following:
- Aspects of medication administration
- Various dosage forms
- Instructions on use of glucometers and readings
- Standing orders
- Instructions on vital signs
- Basic rules of medication cart, minimum practice standards
- Appropriate documentation (weekly summaries, progress notes, medication records, etc.)
- Importance of checking medications for expiration dates
- Physician telephone orders
- Signs and symptoms of changes in medical related disorders
- Perform head-to-toe assessments of residents
- Completion of incident reports
- Completion of the narcotic counts
- Weights as needed
- Diet orders
- Diabetic monitoring
- Assessment pre and post facility leave
- State and federal regulations of CNA responsibilities and scope of practice.
Receives all reports from other staff and reports findings to charge nurse and/ or administrator; Performs duties in accordance with established methods and techniques and in conformance with recognized standards. Provide maximum resident-care services within limits defined by delegated tasks.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide supervision for nursing assistants
- Ensure beds are made daily
- Take vitals
- Measure intake and output as needed
- Keep resident care areas clean
- Ensure resident rights are respected
- Participate in in-service training and be proactive to teach employees
- Use universal precautions
- Maintain proper infection control techniques
- Detect, report, and correct unsafe conditions
- Receive oral reports and written assignments from physician and/ or charge nurse
- Provide maximum resident-care services to assure well-being of resident to greatest degree
- Observe and report symptoms, reactions, and changes in residents
- Encourage and motivate residents to participate in recreational, occupational, and physical therapies to promote activity of mind and body.
- And other duties as assigned by administration
- Responsible for nightshift emergency paperwork
Physical Requirements:
Literate, adult in good physical and mental health; emotional maturity, integrity, poise, and dignity; consistent standing and walking during work hours, turning, stooping, bending, stretching, and lifting to assist residents, make beds, move equipment, and perform other duties and related tasks. Finger and hand dexterity to handle delicate instruments and other equipment as well as visual and hearing acuity to detect changes in resident’s condition.
Special Demands:
Must have a genuine interest in working with mental health consumers. Must possess a willingness to conform to unusual situations. Ability to meet and deal with a variety of employees, residents, and families. Sociability, courtesy, and sympathy. Memory for details, considerable initiative and judgment in promoting favorable public relations.
