POSITION SUMMARY: (Approximately 20% of overall duties)
Must have knowledge of transportation program as well as member-care services. Understanding of standard techniques in providing patient care as well as caring for vehicles, equipment and supplies. Good understanding of basis of asepsis and infection control. Basic public relations skills as well as telephone etiquette. Organizational skills to include scheduling of appointments and execution of service plans.
Exhibit interest in members, patience and tact in dealing with challenging behaviors of members and good public relations skills in dealing with other office personnel. Possess good verbal skills for reporting any changes in member’s physical or emotional status to staff members or medical office personnel including doctors and nurses. Exhibit imitative and judgment in recognizing symptoms indicative of members adverse reactions to treatments; wiliness to perform a variety of simple tasks.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan, coordinate and schedule all PCP appointments as well as appointments for any specialty clinic services. Submit weekly transportation schedule to BHO to receive manifest. When manifest is returned to GMHC, Transportation Guide validates manifest for any errors or discrepancies and records mileage after transportation service is rendered. The complete manifest is sent to GMHC accounting office for billing. Adhere to GMHC policy and procedure for daily and weekly maintenance on transportation vehicle.
Provide transportation of GMHC Supervised Residential members to include:
- PCP appointments
- Specialty medical appointments
- GMHC mental health appointments
- GMHC lab and injection clinic
- Extra-curricular activities (non-billable)
- On-Call (after hours) transportation for medical emergencies
- Hospitalizations
Provide for comfort safety and well-being of all members utilizing transportation services. The person holding this position is delegated in the responsibility for carrying on the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current existing federal and state regulations and established company policies and procedures, as well as policies established by the BHO.
Functions:
- Maintain safe driving practices.
- Ensure member privacy, respect and dignity.
- Participate in in-service and training programs.
- Exhibit and perform proper hand washing techniques.
- Detect, correct and report to GMHC Executive Director any unsafe conditions that could result in an accident or serious injury.
- Receive oral reports and written assignments daily.
- Provide maximum client-care services to assure the well-being of members.
- Execute duties and responsibilities in conformance with established schedule and routine.
- Assure physical and mental comfort, safety and well-being of members.
- Assist in ambulation and transfers of members.
- Detect and correct situations that have a probability of causing accidents or injuries to members.
- Observe and report symptoms, reactions and changes in member’s condition.
- Possess knowledge of procedures.
- Maintain and use vehicle and equipment.
- Work cooperatively with other staff members.
- Use imitative and judgment in scheduling appointments and coordinating care.
- Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have and maintain a current valid driver’s license (class F) endorsement as required by federal and state law, and the MCC.
EDUCATION:
Must have a minimum High School diploma or GED, completion of the state-approved training programs, including on-the-job training. Continuing education requirements as required by federal and state law, including in-service training programs.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 6 months experience in related field/health care facilities. Prefer two or more years.
SPECIAL DEMANDS:
Must have a genuine interest in working with mentally ill, willingness to work, patience and tact in dealing with members, families, staff and medical personnel. Imitative and judgment is recognizing symptoms indicative to change in member’s condition, good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task under occasionally stressful circumstances.
