National Operations Intern

Position Overview

The Operations Intern will support Generation Hope’s internal operations and ensure that our offices and events function smoothly. This position provides a valuable opportunity for a post-secondary student to gain practical experience in nonprofit operations, event coordination, and administrative support. The Operations Intern will assist with office space rentals, event logistics, staff morale initiatives, internal program development, and day-to-day office upkeep to foster an efficient, welcoming, and engaging environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors.

 

This internship is ideal for individuals who thrive in a collaborative and professional setting, demonstrate strong organizational skills, and maintain a focused, independent approach to their work. The ideal candidate values discretion, respects team dynamics, and works effectively with colleagues of varying ages and management styles. The position requires the intern to be in the office 2-3 days a week and attend Monday staff meetings in-person  at 10:30 a.m. By the end of the internship, the Operations Intern will have contributed meaningfully to impactful initiatives and gained valuable professional experience within a supportive and inclusive nonprofit environment.


Key Responsibilities

 

Office Space Rentals & Research

  • Collaborate with the Administrative Coordinator to manage office space rental applications and processes.
  • Research space rental trends and pricing to refine offerings and improve rental strategies, with the goal of creating a comprehensive renters guide or reference for new clients and renters.
  • Serve as one of the contacts for renters, providing excellent communication and onsite support during events.

Event & Staff Support

  • Partner with the Director of Human Resources & Administration to provide logistical support for staff meetings, events, and gatherings.
  • Work with the Events Coordinator to plan and execute internal key events, including logistics for celebrations, initiatives, and retreats.
  • Actively contribute as a member of the Staff Morale Committee by developing ideas and initiatives to enhance workplace culture and engagement.

Human Resources & Program Development

  • Assist in creating structure and processes for the Internship Program, including drafting materials and supporting program logistics to promote intern engagement.
  • Support the HR team in documenting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), optimizing the Shared Drive, and developing training slide decks to enhance onboarding for staff and interns.

Internal Communications

  • Design and distribute the monthly staff newsletter using tools like Canva and MailChimp. Ensure the content is engaging, relevant, and reflective of organizational updates.

Customer Service & Office Maintenance

  • Greet and direct National Office visitors, answer phone calls, relay messages, and respond to general inquiries professionally and courteously.
  • Provide light and occasional tidying of common areas to ensure they remain clean, organized, and welcoming.
  • Take ownership of preparing the office for the workday, including:
    • Turning on lights and setting up a welcoming atmosphere.
    • Ensuring snacks are stocked and available for staff.
    • Playing background music in the lobby.
    • Verifying monitors are operational and displaying relevant content.

Finance Team Support

  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Operations & Strategy as needed to assist the finance team with administrative tasks, including supporting financial reporting and documentation.

Additional Duties

  • Perform other tasks as assigned to support Generation Hope’s mission and operations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably with a focus in nonprofit management, business administration, human resources, psychology, humanities, or a related degree.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace.
  • Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software or project management tools (e.g., Asana, Trello).
  • Familiarity with communication tools such as Canva, MailChimp, or similar platforms.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to manage diverse responsibilities.
  • Attention to detail, especially in creating materials and maintaining office operations.:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Customer service-oriented approach with a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to be in the office 2-3 days per week and attend Monday morning staff meetings.
  • Experience conducting market research or creating guides and reference materials.


CANDIDATES MUST RESIDE IN WASHINGTON, D.C., VIRGINIA, MARYLAND AREA BEFORE THE EMPLOYMENT START DATE. Generation Hope has a hybrid work model.
