    Job Summary: The Home-Based Teacher is responsible for the planning, and implementing developmentally appropriate home visitation services, and meeting the social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of young children and/or pregnant mothers in the Head Start Early Head Start Program. Program participants may include pregnant mothers, infants, toddlers, and/or preschoolers. Program services, consisting of weekly, 90-minute home visits will be provided in the home of the enrolled family. Comprehensive services will be offered in partnership with Head Start/Early Head Start staff specializing in Health, Family Engagement, Disabilities, and Behavioral Health. Center based group socialization sessions will be conducted for two hours twice per month.

    Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):
    • Plans home based and socialization activities to stimulate growth in literacy, language, mathematics, science, social and motor skills, such as learning to respond to stories read aloud, listening to instructions, playing with others, using senses to explore and manipulate classroom materials and using play equipment. Planning is to be in keeping with Head Start Performance Standards and the State of Michigan Early Childhood Standards of Quality.
    • Develops and uses instructional materials aligned with the Parents as Teacher curriculum and the Partners for a Healthy Baby curriculum.
    • Maintains the confidentiality of each child and family, and respects the culture and background of each family served.
    • Uses the program’s developmental screenings and child assessments as required.
    • Provides a welcoming and supportive relationship with parents to establish and reinforce acceptable child behavior, attitudes and social skills.
    • Assists with recruitment, enrollment, and required documentation for families and children in the home-based option.
    • Creates a home-based lesson plan for each home visit that effectively engages parents and children in learning; promotes the parent’s role as the child’s most important teacher.
    • Provides individual and small group instruction designed to meet the individual needs of children and parents to promote growth, development and school readiness schools for each child.
    • of data collection for child assessment including child observations, collection of anecdotal notes, and demonstration of skills to measure children’s growth; completes the child assessments required for the program in a timely, complete manner.
    • Communicates regularly with parents by means of phone calls, email, home visits and individual parent conferences.
    • Assists families in obtaining needed health assessments, appointments, and follow up care by providing referrals, information, transportation, and other supports as needed.
    • Promotes parent/guardian participation and involvement in all aspects of the program including socializations, field trips, health events, screenings, family events, Parent Policy opportunities, etc.
    • Assesses families’ needs and assists with resources and actions that help families meet their goals.
    • Utilizes Child Plus as required to document child and family goals, communication logs, health information, participation, etc.
    • Participates in Family Engagement, building, staff and center team meetings.
    • Participates in required professional development hours.
    • Trained and certified as required in the Parents as Teachers curriculum.
    • Follows safety protocol, including using safety devices, as outlined by the program.
    • Sanitize educational materials after each use.
    • Submit timesheets in a timely manner using company protocol.
    • Consistently models Win-Win leadership.

    Qualifications:

    Education:
    Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education preferred. Bachelor’s degree in related field with an Infant/toddler/preschool CDA and Home Visitor CDA accepted.

    Experience:
    Minimum of two (2) years work experience in an early childhood setting. Home visiting experience preferred.

    Skills/Other:
    Must be able to obtain a satisfactory criminal history check through fingerprinting and to pass a physical before hire. Must have a valid Michigan driver license, current automobile insurance and have the ability to travel to and from homes in the assigned geographical area. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as an effective team member. Evidence of accurate recordkeeping, financial management and data collection skills. Ability to utilize district technology, and work to maintain proficiency, as required skill sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district. Ability to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with program goals. Maintains a positive working relationship with parents/guardians and staff. Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position. Ability to work a flexible workday and work week, and work year. Strong teamwork, interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills. Represents the district in a professional manner at all times. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times. Ability to maintain positive working relationships with team members. Discretion with confidential information. Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policies and administrative guidelines.
