Job Title:
Teacher of the Homebound and Hospitalized, Special Education
Job Summary:
The teacher of the homebound and hospitalized provides instructional services to eligible students with disabilities who cannot attend school because of hospitalization or a physical/medical impairment.
Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):
1. Delivers instructional services to homebound and hospitalized students.
2. Receives textbooks and other teaching support materials from the home school and delivers these materials to the assigned students.
3. Meets with assigned students on a regular basis consisting of a minimum of two nonconsecutive hours of instruction per week.
4. Maintains appropriate records dealing with assignments and shares this information with ISD representatives.
5. Develops student progress reports in the assigned area in accordance with the intermediate school district plan.
6. Participates in Individualized Education Planning Team (IEPT) meetings when appropriate.
7. Develops instructional plans based on the IEPT objectives for students in the assigned area.
8. Develops a working relationship with students' parents/guardians in assigned area of responsibility.
9. Drives to students' homes and other agencies to provide services.
10. Consistently models Win-Win leadership.
Other Duties:
1. Represents the district on various community service agencies and professional organizations as appropriate to the assigned area.
2. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree required. Valid Michigan teacher certificate with at least one endorsement in special education required. Approval as teacher of the physically or otherwise health impaired preferred.
Experience:
Demonstrated successful student teaching experience required. Student teaching experience in special education in a specific area of impairment preferred. Three years successful teaching experience in major area of endorsement preferred.
