Job Title: Interim Gallery Attendant
Compensation: $17/hour
Schedule: Approximately 16 hours/week

Location: Genesee Valley Council on the Arts (GVCA), Mount Morris, NY
Genesee Valley Council on the Arts has been a nonprofit for over 50 years serving the artists and communities of Livingston and Monroe counties and is the steward of the New Deal Collection, a 1930s art collection permanent to the organization. GVCA is the regional arts council for Livingston County as well as the regional regrant site for Monroe and Livingston counties on behalf of the New York State Council on the Arts.
Position Overview:GVCA is seeking a reliable, friendly, and arts-supportive Interim Gallery Attendant to help manage our gallery space and provide a welcoming presence for visitors. This is a part-time, temporary position with flexible scheduling, including Saturdays and occasional evenings for events or special programs. Applicants must be age 16 or older.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist gallery visitors with professionalism and warmth
- Monitor the gallery space during open hours to ensure safety and security of artwork
- Answer questions about current exhibitions, artists, and GVCA programs
- Perform light cleaning duties to maintain a clean and welcoming gallery environment (e.g., sweeping, wiping surfaces, etc.)
- Assist with light administrative or gallery maintenance tasks.
- Support setup and cleanup for gallery events or receptions as needed
- Report attendance data and visitor feedback to staff
- Communicate any issues or concerns to the GVCA team in a timely manner
Qualifications:
- Must be age 16 or older
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Availability for Saturdays and occasional evenings
- Interest in the arts and community engagement
- Prior customer service or gallery experience is a plus, but not required
Term & Possibility for Continuation:This is a temporary 20-week position, with the potential for renewal based on performance and organizational needs.
