Who we are looking for:
We are seeking a motivated, caring Licensed Veterinary Technician with a strong work ethic to complement our team. The ideal candidate will have a positive, professional attitude, be capable of communicating effectively and work well with others.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology.
- Must possess a valid NYS Veterinary Technology License.
- Ability to pass a professional background screening.
- Experience preferred but new graduates will be considered.
Requirements and responsibilities:
- Assist the Veterinarian in exam rooms (Drawing up vaccines, trimming nails,expressing anal glands, accurately obtaining patient history, maintaining medicalrecords and medication logs).
- Fill prescriptions accurately and review directions with clients.
- Maintain professional and courteous communications with clients via face to face, telephone or email (Including updates, admissions and discharge information).
- Perform and prepare laboratory samples such as ear and skin cytology, fecal and urine analysis and blood smears.
- Perform venipuncture for drawing blood samples, placing IV Catheters and performing Heartworm and Feline Leukemia testing.
- Perform client education, such as instruction and demonstration of insulin and subcutaneous fluid administration.
- Prepare patients for surgical procedures, as well as perform and monitor anesthesia.
- Obtain and process digital radiographs.
- Perform dental prophylaxis and radiographs.
- Administer medications (Oral, topical and injectable) at the discretion / direction of the Veterinarian.
- Must be physically capable of lifting up to 40 lbs, restraint of large animals, standing for long periods of time
- Appropriately maintain treatment and exam rooms, including maintenance of equipment such as anesthetic machines, monitors, cleaning and autoclaving of surgical instruments, ensuring that adequate supplies are available when necessary and maintaining cleanliness of the hospital.
- Demonstrate professional behavior and interactions with members of the hospital team and veterinary staff.
- Provide compassionate patient care with as little stress as possible to the clients, patients and staff.
