SUMMARY:
The person in this position plans, directs and collaborates with other Commercial team members in all aspects of the organization’s industrial development initiatives to ensure that the company achieves its industrial development goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Attract, develop and facilitate new growth opportunities of new rail-oriented industries along the various Genesee & Wyoming rail lines and analyze those opportunities.
· Promote G&W served sites for new build and expansion projects via proactive, targeted meetings and solicitation.
· Respond to site search inquiries.
· Demonstrate expertise in a variety of the industrial development field’s concepts, practices, and procedures.
· Provide extensive experience and judgment to plan work and accomplish goals, with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
· Provide strategic direction and mentoring to other Industrial Development professionals.
· Establish and nurture relationships with EDCs and state agencies, landowners, brokers, developers.
· Keep Department head informed of industrial development results, actions, and analyses.
· Assist staff engineer with gathering information to develop track layout designs.
· Maintain and keep updated database of adjacent properties.
· Promote G&W sites/activity via media, website, LinkedIn.
· New customer on-boarding for both ID projects and expansions in support of regional Marketing & Sales teams.
· Collaborate with and bring in proper departments at proper times to the project, encourage regional Salesperson contact and participation early in the project.
· Initiate and develop Industrial Development proposals for new and expanded customer facilities on G&W railroads, collaborate with local Marketing & Sales personnel and Operations to successfully close deals.
· Perform reporting and analysis tasks.
· Promote and support the commercial agenda of the company.
· Collaborate with all key stakeholders in the company.
· Assist with training new Industrial Development staff.
· Manage other projects and perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
· Ability to drive for results in a professional way.
· Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
· Exceptional critical-thinking and analytical skills.
· Strong skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel and Word).
· Strong organization, project-management, and personnel-management skills.
· Ability to interact effectively with all functions inside the company and with all levels of the customer base.
· Proven record of increasing revenues through industrial development or sales efforts and strategy.
· Willingness to travel up to 70 percent at certain times, normal travel is 50%.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:
· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
· At least five years of railroad or related industry marketing and/or sales experience preferred.
· At least 5 years of business development in a team environment.
