Campus Title Technical Director Department Theatre & Dance Position Summary SUNY Geneseo is excited to seek applicants for a Technical Director in the Theatre & Dance dept. The Technical Director is primarily responsible for supervision and implementation of all production elements (lighting, sound, set construction, projection, etc.) of Theatre and Dance productions, with Music and Musical Theatre of one large musical, one medium size musical, and one-to-two plays per-year with two dance concerts per-year.
Additional duties will include events such as the President’s Convocation, Master’s Graduation, and theatre space rentals arranged by Campus Scheduling. The Technical Director ensures safe-working practices, provides minimal production management for the use of the theatre spaces by outside groups and facilitates repair and maintenance of the theatre resources and equipment. Key to this position is a strong work ethic centered on excellent organizational skills and the ability to develop and maintain positive, collaborative relationships and communications with all artistic parties (designers, actors, directors, etc.), as well as administrative staff. The position will manage set, shop equipment and theatre space budgets. They will work with and supervise student crews and work-study / temporary service students for work calls and daily tasks while maintaining inventory of equipment, supplies, and storage facilities. Required Qualifications Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree by time of appointment
- Knowledge of stage carpentry, lighting, projection, sound, stage rigging
- Ability to teach Introduction to Technical Theatre (3 credits) each semester and one Stagecraft (1 credit) per year
- Experience with budgets
- Experience in supervising
