Overview of Position :
Sets up and operates x-ray equipment used in the medical diagnosis and / or treatment of patients in the physician office. Uses knowledge of profession to determine effective amount of radiation needed to gather appropriate image, and sets controls accordingly. Applies knowledge of anatomy and physiology to the process in order to help the physician diagnose problems. Position will assist with a variety of things within the office during times when not busy with x-rays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Communicates with patient about x-rays to ensure patient and family understand the process, including removal of clothing or jewelry that may interfere with the procedure.
2. Places the imaging equipment at the correct height and angle relative to the patient's body to produce the needed image(s).
3. Follows physician instruction closely and positions patients properly to obtain image(s) ordered by the physician. May require maneuvering, turning and lifting patients with limited mobility.
4. Correctly sets the equipment to obtain the best density, detail, and contrast of the area being imaged.
5. Takes preventative steps to avoid unnecessary exposure to radiation. Protects patient and other personnel from radiation hazards. Includes proper use of aprons, gloves or other shielding devices.
6. Keeps records of x-ray film, unit usage and activities. Assists in the care and maintenance of x-ray equipment. Order supplies and requests maintenance as needed.
7. Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments to x-ray equipment, including determining repairs needed to equipment.
8. Adjusts and sets radiographic controls to prescribed specifications for proper timing of exposure. Regulates the length and intensity of exposure.
9. Ensures compliance with infection control procedures for the work area.
10. Checks X-rays for clarity of image, and retakes X-rays when needed.
11. Maintains quantity and quality control checks to assure X-ray unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and departmental policies.
12. Maintains certification as required by the appropriate certifying board and state of Ohio.
13. Performs related work as assigned, and assists with other general office work as needed.
14. Orders vaccines and other medical supplies.
15. Administers vaccines and other medications as ordered by the physician.
16. Takes vitals and assessments for patient.
17. Sets up and assists with minor procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (or equivalent) and licensed by the State of Ohio in Radiology.
2. Competence in diagnostic radiographic procedures performed at the clinic.
3. Knowledge of the principles and practices of diagnostic radiographic procedures.
4. Knowledge of human anatomy.
5. Must be able to communicate calmly, compassionately, and professionally with all different types of patients including the elderly, ailing, and handicapped.
6. Must have a good understanding of protection from and risks associated with radiation exposure.

2. Will spend a significant amount of work day standing.
3. Answers telephone calls, uses personal computer and other business machines extensively, which requires the ability to apply finger dexterity. Individual bends, reaches, pushes and pulls file drawers to file records and reports.

5. Able to regularly lift, move or otherwise position patients who need assistance.
6. Vision abilities required include up close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
