Overview of Position :
Functions as a part of the surgical team to provide care in the intra-operative phase of the surgical or obstetrical procedure using knowledge of instrumentation and equipment to ensure the best possible outcome for each patient. Ensures OR instruments, supplies, drapes, etc. remain sterile throughout the case. Meets the needs of the OR team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Properly decontaminates instruments and / or scopes, re-sterilize, and maintain log of activity.
2. Keeps the equipment coordinator and / or manager informed of problems or suspected problems with the various pieces of equipment in the operating room.
3. Supports maintenance of accurate preference cards through communication with surgery team.
4. Demonstrates proficient knowledge and skills, ability to, and willingly accepts an equality on-call schedule as dictated by staffing levels.
5. Demonstrates the ability to reduce cost per procedure by not opening supplies that are not needed.
6. Demonstrates ability to respond to hospital within 30 minutes.
7. Serves on department specialty focus team and accepts responsibility of assigned area(s).
8. Assist circulating nurse with documenting implant records completely and accurately. Assists with documenting correct charges.
9. Participates in counting as per policy.
10. Participates in Time Out per policy.
11. Assists circulating nurse pre-incision and after closing incision in meeting patient needs.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Genesis offers two Surgical Technician opportunities : Surgical Technician I & Surgical Technician II.
To qualify for a Surgical Technician I position, applicants must have :
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Patient care / health care experience.
3. Knowledge of medical terminology in addition to anatomy and physiology.
4. Must complete and successfully pass the Genesis Surgical Technician Competency Program within twelve (12) months of hire.
5. Current CPR or be able to obtain within 30 days of employment.
6. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow exact protocols.
7. Good interpersonal skills (talking, listening, patience, judgment, initiative, ability to relate with others).
To qualify for a Surgical Technician II position, applicants must have :
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Completed an accredited surgical technology program.
3. Current CPR or be able to obtain within 30 days of employment.
4. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
5. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow exact protocols.
6. Good interpersonal skills (talking, listening, patience, judgment, initiative, ability to relate with others).
