What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pharmacy Technician position at Genesis Prime Care?
The Pharmacy Technician is the primary point of first contact in the retail pharmacy setting. The Pharmacy Tech assists the pharmacist in their daily tasks and are directly involved in receiving and dispensing prescriptions. All duties are performed under the supervision of a Pharmacist.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receives prescriptions by internet, phone or in-person
- Enters prescriptions into computer database
- Prepares medications for review by pharmacist; obtains pharmacist approval. Preparation may include:
- Initiate refill authorization requests
- Take stock bottle from shelf for prescription
- Prepare and package drug orders (e.g. count tablets/capsules, measure liquids, or place them in the container)
- Affix prescription and auxiliary label(s) to the prescription container
- Reconstitute medications
- Compound non-sterile preparations (Sterile preparations must complete required training by State Board of Pharmacy)
- Verifies the prescription and contacts referring physicians’ offices with questions
- Assists clients at checkout by processing payments/co-payments
- Contacts the pharmacist for consult and counseling with the patient
- May assist with insurance claims processing
- Ensures appropriate stock levels and performs inventory as needed
- Ensures compliance with legal issues including but not limited to patient confidentiality and risk management; ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Exhibits a high degree of courtesy, tact, and poise when interacting with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Adjusts to fluctuating peaks in patient flow, acuity, and other operational demands while maintaining quality.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management within scope.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be:
- High School graduate or equivalent (GED)
- Registered with State Board of Pharmacy (Texas) as a Texas Pharmacy Registered Technician or Technician in Training
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
- Current knowledge of pharmacological/biopharmaceutical principles and medical terminology.
- Thorough knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding the provision of pharmaceutical services.
- Strong customer service skills; must be organized, friendly and responsible.
- Experience managing inventories preferred.
- Strong computer, mathematical, spelling and reading skills.
- Competence in reacting to and handling emergencies within scope of employment.
- Able to work collaboratively with multiple health professionals in a busy and complex environment using tact, diplomacy, and discipline.
- Ability to understand and adhere to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- No record of substance abuse

Position to begin 5/1/2025
Schedule Rotates: Monday - Friday 8 am - 4 pm OR 10 am - 6 pm
Saturdays 9 am - 1 pm
