Position Summary:
The Vice President of Business Development will help design and drive effective sales strategies and, at the same time, identify, secure and retain business through consultative and proactive sales efforts directed at decision-makers across existing and new life science clients. They will also continue to develop their existing client relationships to enable the development of new business opportunities and expansion across existing accounts.
Responsibilities:
- Proactively identify potential new business opportunities and demonstrate ability to successfully manage the engagement throughout the sales cycle from prospecting to awarded.
- Leverage your strong, long-term relationships with key advocates and decision-makers to maintain high internal and external visibility across designated accounts.
- Support key strategic priorities in partnership with management team to support Genesis’ strategic roadmap and successfully implement the long-term objectives and initiatives to drive business results.
- Leverage strategic thinking skills to provide thought leadership and recommendations to internal team and external clients to support Genesis Research’s overall mission and goals.
- Utilize exceptional strategic leadership skills, executive presence and communication skills.
- Provide mentorship to the Business Development team sharing your expertise and supporting their developmental goals.
- Lead, develop, implement and successfully execute comprehensive account plans and strategies for designated accounts and collaborate with cross-functional internal team to track progress against the plan and provide quarterly status updates.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of designated accounts, key departments, and stakeholders within the account to ensure success as the primary point of contact for providing information on account relationships, research priorities, and influencers.
- Ability to leverage internal cross-functional resources to lead internal and external discussions to understand client challenges and develop solutions that provide strategic and differentiated value.
- Develop and maintain in-depth understanding of Genesis’ key offerings and capabilities and determine how to best position across different client segments, departments, and stakeholders as well as identify cross-sell opportunities.
- Ensure Genesis is well-informed on the evolving competitive landscape across designated accounts, including proactive pursuit of understanding competitor positioning and pricing to identify specific reasons for awards/non-awards.
- Lead proposal preparation/defense meetings and development of any client presentation associated collateral.
- Record all client sales related activities in CRM system and ensure weekly updates are provided to sales management to ensure pipeline of opportunities aligns with business target.
- Establish brand recognition of Genesis Research and communicate with internal Project Managers to assess overall level of client satisfaction and progress of projects.
- Represent respective Sales Team to Senior Management on key business updates related to sales activities for designated accounts.
Experience/Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant field of study. Graduate degree (Doctorate or Masters) in a RWE/HE&OR-related field (e.g., public health, epidemiology, MBA, health services research) also preferred.
- Minimum 12 years of experience in business development or related experience in the biotechnology / pharmaceutical, and/or healthcare industry.
- Extensive familiarity with the needs of medical affairs, R&D, commercial, safety, and pharmacovigilance teams within life sciences companies.
- Strong understanding of the RWE/HEOR/RWD landscape. Additional experience in RWE, project management, business development, and/or life science focused strategy consulting preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional interpersonal skills, including excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work simultaneously on multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a client facing role, be proactive, and work independently and as a team player.
- High-level business acumen, awareness, and understanding of industry trends.
- Adaptability and flexibility to changing priorities and ability to successfully lead, manage, and prioritize multiple opportunities of varying complexity.
- Ability to confidently interact with senior leadership and executives both internally and externally. Excellent negotiation, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: MS PowerPoint, MS Word, Salesforce, and Excel.
