Our client, a leading specialty insurance organization, is seeking an experienced Energy Casualty Underwriter to join their dynamic team in Atlanta. This role offers an exciting opportunity to manage a diverse $6-8M book of business across the Southeast territory, focusing on pipeline contractors, heavy industrial contractors, chemical plants, and manufacturing risks. The ideal candidate will bring technical underwriting expertise and thrive in an autonomous, collaborative environment with significant field-level decision-making authority.
Responsibilities :
Underwrite complex Energy Casualty risks across the Southeast region (FL, GA, SC, NC, TN, AL, MS)
Manage a $6-8M book of business with an average account size of $500,000 in premium
Develop and maintain a diverse portfolio spanning :
Pipeline contractors
Heavy industrial contractors
Chemical plants
Manufacturing facilities
Assess and underwrite both guaranteed cost and loss-sensitive accounts
Analyze risk profiles with 40% focus on oil and gas and 60% on manufacturing and contractors
Prepare comprehensive underwriting submissions and risk evaluations
Cultivate and maintain broker and client relationships
Implement strategic underwriting guidelines
Exercise independent decision-making within a flat management structure
Provide timely and accurate risk assessments
Contribute to team's overall book growth and profitability
Maintain detailed underwriting documentation and reporting
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, or related field
3-5 years of Energy or Casualty underwriting experience
Strong background in construction or primary casualty underwriting
Experience with pipeline, industrial, and manufacturing risk assessment
Demonstrated ability to handle complex commercial risk profiles
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong communication and relationship-building capabilities
Proficiency in insurance underwriting software and Microsoft Office suite
Property and Casualty insurance license
Professional insurance designations (CPCU, CIC) preferred
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Comfortable with a hybrid work model (in-office 3 days per week)
