Job Title : Primary Casualty Underwriter
Location : New York City or Philadelphia (Hybrid : 3 days a week in office)
Our client is seeking a skilled and driven Primary Casualty Underwriter to join their growing team in the Northeast region. This role offers the opportunity to handle both Large Loss Sensitive Casualty and Middle Market Commercial Casualty, based on your background and interests. The position is based in either New York City or Philadelphia and is open to candidates who can cover both territories.
Key Responsibilities :
- Underwrite a mix of casualty lines, including Worker's Compensation, General Liability, and Auto, with a focus on new business development, prospecting, and cross-selling.
- Start by handling a small renewal book with a strong emphasis on growing the book through new business opportunities in the NYC / Philly markets.
- Manage a diverse book of business, including industries such as manufacturing, retail / wholesale trade, hospitality, service, and transportation.
- Work with a variety of program structures, including guaranteed cost, loss-sensitive, high deductible, corridor deductibles, fronted structures, captives, and unbundled claims.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to a younger team, helping develop talent while also being hands-on with underwriting responsibilities.
- Collaborate closely with brokers and clients, ideally with existing relationships with major brokers in the NYC area (Marsh, Willis, Aon, and Lockton), though familiarity with tier 2 and super-regional brokers is also welcome.
- Support the growth of a book of business, contributing to the expansion of the company's Risk Management Casualty group focused on Fortune 1000 companies.
