Database Administrator - Senior

Genesis10 is currently seeking a Database Administrator - Senior for a one year contract working onsite with an insurance company in Franklin, WI.

Job Description:

As a DB2 LUW Database Systems Engineer, you will engineer and support database systems including analysis, planning, design, development, implementation, and upgrades. Applying established architectural and engineering best practices, you will take charge of complex systems to achieve strategic objectives in the areas of solving for client, infrastructure availability and automation, as well as a strong focus on database environment security.

This involves designing system solutions, implementing new features, resolving complex incidents and problems, enhancing infrastructure monitoring and alerts, and consultation with application support and development staff.

By applying established best practices, you will take charge of build decisions, infrastructure design for larger, more complex systems to achieve strategic objectives through Agile-based delivery. As a strategic thinker, you help to bring out the best in those around you. You will also have the opportunity to learn and work with other database technologies and automation practices based on additional architectural design and engineering opportunities.

Responsibilities:

• This role requires an agile mindset within a continuous delivery model.
• Ability to work in agile teams by defining and planning work on a team backlog and determining ways for the team to be successful in meeting its outcomes.
• Highly proficient with AIX/Linux operating systems.
• Highly skilled with all aspects of DB2-LUW including HADR and TSA tiebreaker scenarios and design options.
• Developing database upgrade, migration and other configuration and design patterns for deployment.
• Ability to drive innovation for system improvements, determine architectural and design best practices, find automation opportunities and guide proper use of new features and functionality.
• Ability to write and maintain complex Unix shell and Python scripts for maintenance, automation and testing.
• Experience resolving complex problems, logically and methodically.
• Competency in ITIL processes: Incident, Problem, Knowledge and Change Management.
• Awareness of Service Management related target metrics.
• Demonstrate good judgment for when and how to involve and communicate with vendors, internal teams, and management.
• Ability to design, implement, and maintain Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and provide support for BCP exercises and actual disaster recovery.
• Partner with product team to analyze business requirements and functional specifications to design and build data solutions.
• Maintain development best practices to optimize maintainability and supportability of systems through all environments.
• Experience with automation tools such as Ansible Tower and Git CICD pipelines to support our infrastructure and perform zero touch changes.
  
  

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in DB2-LUW database administration.
• Strong technical aptitude and ability to logically analyze and creatively solve complex issues independently.
• Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to multiple levels of the organization.
• Ability to work well with teams not centrally located.
• Ability to be self-directed and collaborative in ambiguous situations.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with all levels throughout the enterprise.
• Strong sense of ownership and the ability to work with limited set of requirements.
• Ability and desire to train/mentor other team members.
  
  

Additional Knowledge and Experience Desired:

• Experience working within Atlassian's Jira software for agile based feature and story creation and execution.
• Experience with AWS or other cloud environments including technologies such as Redshift and Elasticache and Databricks
• Experience with using Terraform to create new or modify existing AWS cloud-based clusters and nodes
• Experience using database related products and technologies such as: ELK stack, Dynatrace and Database Brothers Inc. (DBI)
• Experience with using CyberArk vaulting for access to DB2 or other administrative IDs as needed
• Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) experience
