Job Summary: The Research Associate II is responsible for performing and leading technical activities to support the conduct of non-clinical studies.
Essential Functions:
Independently serves as a study lead to coordinate study activities and ensure accurate and complete data collection.
Assists with adopting and troubleshooting of novel procedures, equipment, and disease model development.
Assists with training.
Follows and understands standard operating procedures, protocols, PharmOptima policies, and good documentation/laboratory practices.
Performs and documents dosing administration, blood collection, euthanasia, and tissue collections, including specialty tissue collections.
Performs and documents clinical observations of animals.
Performs administrative duties such as data collection setup, collection tube setup, and data entry.
Monitors animal health of various species.
Assists with monitoring and documenting in vivo environmental conditions.
Assists with various husbandry activities including but not limited to feeding and watering animals, providing enrichment, transporting animals and caging, and cage cleaning and rotation.
Uses various equipment (e.g. pipettes, balances, surgical gas vaporizers, etc.) to carry out job responsibilities.
Job Qualifications: General Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) required
Exceptional written and oral communication and organizational skills.
Must be able to come in contact with a variety of animal species.
Ability to work weekends and holidays as required.
Physical Demands: Physical, Mental and Workplace Environment Conditions
Attention to detail regarding safety and accuracy of procedures performed.
Ability to withstand repeated bending, stooping, and lifting.
Must be able to use laboratory equipment that may require fine motor coordination and/or dexterity.
May be exposed to animal allergens, blood, fluid, and excreta.
Must be able to work with laboratory chemicals and reagents.
Ability to push, pull, or lift 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Workplace Environment Conditions
Position functions are performed in an office and laboratory environment.
Education and Experience:
B.S. in scientific discipline preferred or 3 years of experience in animal care setting and/or equivalent work experience.
Knowledge of animal husbandry guidelines to ensure adherence to standards set by USDA and AAALAC established protocols and procedures.
1 years of experience in non-clinical study conduct.
Experience with good documentation and laboratory practices.
Previous experience with an accredited animal care facility and GLP compliance preferred.
