The role organizes and facilitates a place-based collaboration for policy, systems and environmental changes on local, regional and state levels to advance health equity.
Description
The Community Organizer reports to the Executive Director (ED) and is responsible for policy, systems, and environmental changes on local, regional, and state levels to advance health equity, specifically those impacting the health of residents of our service area (48207, 48213 and 48214). This includes organizing and facilitating a place-based collaboration, for which GenesisHOPE serves as the backbone organization, to identify and address root causes of unmet basic needs (food & water, housing & physical environment, education & income, and other needs) and result in improving coordination of services and mitigating barriers for the community (service area). The Director is also responsible for coordinating activities and disseminating information relative to other collaborative engagements GenesisHOPE and its staff are involved in, as well as supporting the staff with learning and development of action plans (e.g., SNAP PSE, Produce Prescription Program, Inclusive Healthcare Taskforce, etc.).
Major Areas of Responsibility
The major areas of responsibility and some of the job duties include but are not limited to:
Learning & Development
- Stay up to date on what works within the Collective Impact field and any available tools and resources to support the work
Develop and support the learning and development of staff to enhance effectiveness. Provide direction and support to stakeholders in aligning their work.
- Identify, provide, and/or coordinate the delivery of relevant technical assistance to coalitions on continuous improvement practices and systems change and building strategies.
Policy, Systems, and Environmental Change Facilitation
- Develop and maintain relationships with coalitions and community stakeholders.
- Use documentation, data, and systems to manage and coordinate care; monitor, analyze, and report outcomes to strengthen, improve, and change policies and systems; and make environmental changes.
- Develop and maintain relationships within the community to continuously assess needs, identify trends and increase the visibility of our programs and services.
- Work with coalitions and residents to develop detailed plans for executing systems change and building strategies to advance identified areas of change; this includes, but is not limited to:
o Monitoring progress and providing feedback for continuous improvement and accountability o Assisting with various aspects of data collection, reporting, analysis, and sharing
o Assessing implementation challenges and co-developing solutions to address them
o Preparation of written recommendations and reports
o Facilitate ongoing communication within and across coalitions; this will include hosting regular conference calls, in-person meetings and coordinating regular email updates to ensure alignment of activities.
o Develop and support platforms to ensure the engagement of key stakeholders groups in systems change and building processes, including but not limited to residents (youth, families and seniors) and neighborhood non-profit organizations and community and economic development organizations
- Organize, coordinate and facilitate community power building using Neighborhood Action Table or similar framework, including but not limited to
o Monthly community meetings
o Quarterly leader’s forum
o Annual summit
- Manage special projects as assigned, such as the coordination of and dissemination of information from collaborative engagements (e.g., Inclusive Healthcare Task Force, D-CHEA, etc.)
General Operating Support
- Provide facilitative and administrative support; this includes but is not limited to:
o Coordination and documentation of relevant committee activities
o Preparation of materials and regular reports on progress against goals and indicators
Manage relationships with vendors and consultants to ensure cost-effective pricing, quality project oversight, and timely delivery of project products and services.
- Support grants management functions for advancing PSE, including proposal development, reporting, budgeting, contracts, and achieving targeted deliverables.
- Supervise and support interns, practicum students, and volunteers in developing and implementing relevant, meaningful, and impactful projects.
Communications
- Be an advocate and champion for our work and the people we serve.
- Co-create community engagement and needs assessment strategies and collect and analyze data to inform decisions for communications and programming.
- Co-develop an annual marketing and communication plan with goals, objectives, and core messaging for each of our target audiences: residents, clients, funders, donors, partners, media, and the general public based on personal insights.
- Co-develop an annual content calendar that includes events, key dates, types of media and messaging, and oversee implementation including content creation and dissemination (website, newsletter, social media).
- Oversee, supervise and manage staff and volunteers involved in the marketing and communications processes to ensure adherence to branding, style and legal requirements and contractual compliances – quality!
Collaboration Technical Support
The Director is also responsible for coordinating activities and disseminating information relative to other collaborative engagements GenesisHOPE and its staff are involved in as well as supporting the staff with learning, developing and implementing action plans (e.g., SNAP PSE, Produce Prescription Program, Inclusive Healthcare Task Force, etc.). This includes linking these cross-sector collaboration efforts to GenesisHOPE’s place-based collective impact work.
Other Duties
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Professional Development
- Identify and participate in training and workshops to continuously learn and stay abreast of trends and best practices across healthcare, social services, social justice, and community development sectors.
- Identify, join, and actively participate in community groups and trade associations to continuously learn and stay abreast of changing needs, trends, best practices, policies, and systems.
- Maintain professional competencies in subject matters, administration, and technology to improve our operations continuously.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or Community Development required, Master's degree in social work, public health, or urban planning preferred.
- Knowledge of the service area preferred
- Detailed-oriented with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities effectively.
Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams) level 2 (intermediate) proficiency (or Google Workspace: Gmail, Sheets, Doc), and Constant Contact, Canva, Zoom and social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) required. Proficiency in Adobe Creation Suite is preferred but not required. Knowledge of Monday.com is preferred but not required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, organize, and prioritize work.
Salary
$50,000 - $60,000 per year
