Position: Senior Manager of Development and Community Engagement

Location: Houston

Reports to: Senior Director of Development

Mission

Genesys Works is a nonprofit organization that trains and employs high school seniors to perform professional services for major corporations. Our mission is to provide pathways to career success for high school students in marginalized communities through skills training, meaningful work experiences, and impactful relationships.

Position Overview?

The Senior Manager of Development and Community Engagement is responsible for sourcing and nurturing opportunities that directly contribute to the organization's mission. The role involves engaging with community partners, local businesses, and other stakeholders to secure financial donations and in-kind support. The Senior Manager collaborates closely with the Development Team and Marketing and Communications (MarComm) team to ensure cohesive efforts in driving the organization’s impact.?

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Manager of Development and Community Engagement will play a vital role in elevating the organization’s impact through:

Donor Engagement & Fundraising Support?

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Development and the Development Team to create engagement plans that support donor cultivation and retention.?

  • Manage a portfolio of existing and potential donors to support revenue flow.?

  • Contribute to the planning and execution of fundraising events, ensuring active community involvement.?

  • Align community engagement efforts with overall fundraising strategies.?

Community Engagement & Partnership Development?

  • Develop and implement strategies to engage community partners to secure donations and new partnership opportunities.?

  • Identify and pursue partnerships aligned with the GWH’s mission and fundraising goals.?

  • Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including corporate partners, community stakeholders, and nonprofit organizations.?

? Marketing and Branding?

  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to enhance brand awareness and visibility.?

  • Support the creation of marketing materials and outreach strategies that highlight GWH’s mission and success stories.?

  • Serve as a GWH spokesperson at public events and for media opportunities as needed.?

  • Partner with program teams to align community engagement strategies with programmatic goals.?

  • Ensure community engagement activities are integrated into the GWH strategic plan and contribute to measurable results.?

  • Provide regular updates on community engagement activities to Senior Director of Development and leadership team.?

?Leadership & Team Development?

  • Mentor junior staff and volunteers involved in community engagement activities.?

  • Promote a culture of collaboration and innovation.?

  • Engage in professional development to stay in tune with best practices in community engagement and fundraising.?

Relationships

  • Internal:?Maintain oral and written contact with the Senior Director of Development, Leadership Team and staff, and volunteers to exchange information, seek and give assistance, and direction.?

  • External: At the direction of the Senior Director of Development, maintain oral and written contact with other agencies, business leaders, community groups, boards of directors of such organizations, and the media for the purpose of exchanging information and ideas and for the purpose of fundraising.?

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university

  • One to three years' experience managing a team

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships

  • Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising.

  • Financial planning and business acumen

  • Tangible experience of successfully soliciting large grants, major donations and cultivating existing donor relationships over time

  • Deep belief in organizational mission

  • Ability to motivate and inspire the team to achieve organizational goals.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a team focus

  • Ability to identify and effectively address operational challenges

  • Ability to relate to and work with diverse populations in diverse settings

  • Proficient in Salesforce, Excel, MS Office Suite, and Canva

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed, including some evenings and weekends

  • Must pass a background check

Physical Requirements

Including, but not limited to, standing and sitting for long periods; speaking loudly and clearly; moving boxes; seeing and hearing things both near and far away; and reaching, stooping, kneeling, and fine-finger and hand manipulation in the use of a computer, chalkboard, dry erase board, or projector. Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading. Employees may be required to walk for long distances at partner schools, corporations, or other relevant sites. Most work environments are climate-controlled, open space floor plans.
